Zombie by Jeremy

Hello everyone my name is Jeremy, I am attending the ill inst of art Chicago and this quarter I was introduced to ZBrush. My final project that I worked on is of a zombie. I was inspired by some of the characters from I am Legend when I saw it for the first time in theaters. I used many real life refrence images of cuts and injures. This being my first model done in ZBrush I want all of the feedback that can gather so my next project will be more successful. I am missing an action pose that would help show off the model because I was having problems bringing the normal and displacement map back into Maya 8.5. I have now learned that I need to use Maya 2008 as it does not have displacement map problems.

Enjoy.

Hi Jeremy–my name too—also live in the Chicago area…also love zombies!!!

Your base model is good for a start for learning, and it looks like you have a handle on some of the technical stuff. You’ll find that on this forum and others that have something to do with sculpting, when you ask for advice, the overwhelming response is to start slow building the forms of the figure, no matter what that figure is.

Try and start by advancing through the levels of subdivisions–slowly–using the standard and smooth brushes on each level of subdivision until you’re to a point on your model where the underlying structure looks good to you. Grab some references from Google images to help with the trickier parts.

If you get to the point where the polys get bloated and you can’t work on them anymore (maybe while trying to put in a skin wrinkle) with any kind of detail----LEAVE IT ALONE—that area isn’t ready to be sculpted on. Save that for the later stages.

Alexleia, a member here, has posted videos here tonight. Definitely check them out. They’ll give you a GREAT idea of how to use ZBrush.

Keep going man. Good to hear that ZBrush is being taught in Illinois!!

Thanks industripop for the advice. and i will work on the sub levels more as well.

i will look into the videos that you have told me about.
