Zmodeler polyloop problem

I’ll start out by saying I’m very new to zbrush so this could something incredibly simple that I’m missing.
I was trying to follow along some tutorial videos and one of them was for the zmodeler polyloop. Whenever I hit insert polyloop and polyloop, the result is the same as the single poly option. It’s actually the same no matter what option I hit for insert polyloop. Does anyone know why this is happening? Any help would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Hi @risc.art

Polygon > Insert Polyloops > A Single Poly and Polygon> Insert Polyloops > Polyloop both produce different results for me.

There may be an issue with the particular geometry you’re trying to use it on, but without more information I really can’t guess. Please uopload an uncropped screenshot illustrating the issue directly to the thread, and be very, very specific about which element, action, and target selection you are using. Zmodeler involves a lot of variables with vaguely similar sounding terms.

Okay here are some screenshots. This is just on a normal cylinder, I get the same result no matter what I’m working on.

Thanks for the quick response!

Ok, I’m going to guess you’re using primitives with radial topology on the end caps. This tends to confuse a number of operations with Zmodeler. Try switching to “Grid mode” or “Sunburst mode” in the options at the bottom of the Insert polyloops tool. This should produce different results.

Otherwise, I’d recommend a different approach. Edge > Insert Loop should work better at least for the loops on the side, but it too will be confused a bit if you try to insert a loop that involves the topology that meets in a single point at the top. It can’t read a clear loop when that radial topology is involved.

I’m honestly uncertain if this is a bug or just a limitation of the tool, but you would need to report it to Pixologic Support in the form of a ticket to bring it to the attention of the people who develop the program.

Good luck!

It definitely has something to do with the triangles in the end caps. If you hide and delete the end caps, it works ok. If you insert an edge loop in the end cap near the corner, it works ok. If you use a QCylinder, it works ok.

yeah adding the edge worked, thanks!

thanks for all the help! I appreciate it!
