My concept is similar to an insert mesh brush with a couple obvious differences. The main use a would be to draw on flat planes in my mind. It would simply create welded quads along the path of a curve. The insert mesh brush tends to tit the mesh when going into a turn like a motorcycle, hopefully the “Curve Quad Insert Brush” would have the option to really flatten it when desired though although snapping to an odd surface and bending all around could lead to some interesting results I am sure with Qmesh and whatnot. I basically just had the thought that is would be really nice for quick clean profile objects. I also thought it would be nice if you could set the brush size using an existing poly in case there are other elements you have already created and you want a similar size. Another possibility would be to blend and and weld to an existing edge with the possibility to have the size taper up or down for transition when using different sized brushes. I just thought this would be a useful intuitive tool for many people who also want poly level control at times.
It would look something like this plane insert mesh brush I made… only a lot cleaner, and actually useful.
I’m sure you can imagine you could do with this, and you braniacs in development can probably come up with genius twists I haven’t thought of, but it seems that it would not be to difficult to implement… most of the code could be copied from other features. Oh, it did just occur to me you could maybe have a small library of commonly shaped curves… like primitive curves. If you wanted to get really crazy maybe you could import and convert curves from svg files. I don’t know… I am sure there’s a million possibilities.
I figure it never hurts to throw out ideas though. I mean… I remember a while back I mentioned Groboto which died was sort of reborn as mesh fusion plugin for Modo and the boolean creation the used which remained editable till export, and now it looks from what I saw we are getting something similar only better by my way of thinking in usability… the ui is not intuitive at all in groboto… or mesh fusion for that matter… at least back when I tried it.
