Zbrzsh 4R7 64 bit causes my computer to slow down massively

Hi
Since yesterday something happened to either Zbrush or my computer. I suspect Zbrush cos I havent noticed any other software being impacted by this sudden issue.
All other software I use (photoshop and 3ds max) works perfectly as it did before this thing happened.
Zbrush 32 bit works flawlessly as well. but 64 bit for some reason makes my pc slow down to a halt.
Everything takes forever to respond once I start Zbrush 4R7 64 bit inside the zbrush and around windows.
I then need to restart my computer in order to get it back to normal. And as soon as I start Zbrush 64bit again it comes to halt.

Any ideas? I need it to work as it did 1 day ago.
In this time I havent done any changes to the system. Could some odd windows auto update caused this?
I already reinstalled Zbrush suspecting the installation somehow went bad. That didn’t help.

Please help.

Is this with one particular model? If so, check that you have not got Dynamic Subdivision on as well as classic Subdivision. That can slow things down.

If that’s not it then you could try deleting the ZBrushData folder in Users\Public\Documents (Windows Explorer will display this as Users\Public\Public Documents). ZBrush will recreate the folder on start up. If you use a custom interface then make a copy of it to a different location by pressing Preferences>Config>Save Ui before doing this.

If that doesn’t help then submit a ticket to Pixologic Support.

Hi Marcus
Thanks for your fast reply.

I solved the situation this morning. I tried most of the things you mentioned, none of it helped.
The Dynamic Subdivision had nothing to do with my case cos the system lagged without me ever loading any model.
It all went bad by just launching zbrush 64 bit. My entire pc went to a crawl, together with zbrush.
Like, it took a minute or more to launch chrome browser and get to zbrush central.

What did the trick for me is updating nvidia drivers.
I havent updated nvidia for the last two months or so and thought I’d do it since my windows 10 64bit was up to date and there were no windows updates around the time this problem occurred.
Prior to nvidia update I was contemplating wiping entire OS and doing fresh install. And I would probably have done it if I havent found solution.

But I’m still puzzled as to what is the connection between nvidia driver and zbrush that it can take such a big impact in performance so suddenly. And with no apparent changes in system etc.

I guess this is valuable experience for anyone that might run into similar problems in future.

Cheers

I spoke to soon.
The problem is still here.
It worked this morning now it’s back to square one.
Still making my pc lag.

Im writing a support ticket.

I think that’s probably the best course now.

I have found a solution for my problem.

Back at Pixologic support I got assistance and I thought I solved it by disabling Anti Virus protection during the clean install.
Cos there was a suspicion that some zbrush files got moved, erased or modified in a way it affected zbrush 64 bit performance.
Since this solution worked only for the first and initial zbrush run right after the activation process and it went back to problematic behavior upon second launch I continued to look for the solution my self.

It was not the Zbrush that caused the system to lag and hang after all.
It was windows 10 built in game bar recorder.
It pops up automatically once I launch zbrush 64 bit. Since my 32 bit Zbrush worked fine I launched that version and noticed the game bar doesn’t pop up with 32 bit Zbrush.
I went on and disabled game bar and that solved it for me.
The game bar popped up to zbrush 64 bit in past as well but since it never caused any issues I thought nothing of it.
Not sure tho what changed over the last couple days with the game bar or windows OS that it made such a bad hit in performance upon game bar automatic pop up during certain app launches.

Anyways, hope this thread is of some help for anyone who runs into same problem.

Cheers

Many thanks for posting this. Much appreciated. :+1:
