Hi there,
Just posting since I can’t find a clear answer online or on forums - can Zbrush Core export displacement maps/vector displacement maps? I don’t need most of the fancy features of ZBrush, all I need is something that can bring in a UV’d mesh, add some higher res details, then export displacement maps with an obj at the same res as it came in.
Is this possible?
Thanks
ZBrushCore does not support UV mapping. You can import a UV’d model and it won’t discard the UV’s but it also won’t do anything with them. So there’s no way to export any kind of map from ZBrushCore.
Basically, ZBrushCore is primarily aimed at people who will be working exclusively within that software while ZBrush is aimed more at people who will be using it in a pipeline with other programs.
Thanks for the response Aurick, very clear. For what its worth, if it could export displacement maps I would buy it in a heartbeat!
Follow up question: Can you export OBJs at any subdiv you like? For example, could i export a high res mesh at subd 6 and a lower res version at subd 2?
Thanks again
Yes, you can export as OBJ and doing so will export the current subdivision level. The maximum number of polygons per SubTool is 20 million, which is more detail than a 4K map can hold. So you could use this technique to calculate displacement or normal maps in other software, provided that the application can import models of up to 20 million polygons.
