ZBrush Workstation

Hey all,

I am about to invest in a ZBrush centric mobile-workstation. I’m looking at the Dell M6500 or the Macbook Pro. I don’t care what brad anything is, I just want the perfect machine for the task of handling ZBrush seamlessly.

I am prioritising the RAM, at the expense of any other spec, the minimum CPU and GPU look good enough for the M6500.

Can anyone tell me from professional experience what the best decision is in regard to a Zbrush Centric Mobile workstation?

thanks.

update

hey - I’m configuring with x64 bit OS and the full compliment of RAM 16GB.

Hi,

I’m not a professional but I read a lot about computers and from what I understand the M6500 comes with the 32 bit version of windows 7. If possible you should upgrade it to the 64 bit, professional or ultimate version. The 32 bit version only supports up to 4gb of RAM. The Professional and Ultimate 64 bit can support up to 192gb of RAM. Of course that amount wont fit into the laptop, but I would want more than 4gigs myself, maybe 6 or 8gigs. I currently run Zbrush on a Dell studio 15 laptop: core 2 duo 8100, ati mobility HD 3400, 3 gigs of RAM, VISTA ultimate. I didnt know any better and never thought I’d be able to afford Zbrush so I only got 3 gigs. I don’t know when I’ll be able to get a new computer, but when I do running Zbrush smoothly and efficiently will be a priority. I’m starting to wonder whether I will want a desktop or a laptop, tough choice.

I wouldn’t get a mac.
