zbrush takes a lot of memery

hi all

following is my system configuration-

amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 5200+ 2.0 ghz processor
2gb ddr2
nvidia geforce 8400 gs
asus m2avm motherboard

i have got an issue related to the memory zbrush utilizes
i have attached an image showing the related problem

[zbrush high mem issue.JPG](javascript:zb_insimg(‘142803’,‘zbrush%20high%20mem%20issue.JPG’,1,0))

the model i am working on has not got so much subtools that zbrush can’t compensate…although they were invisible and the main tool was at the lowest subdivision level but when i opened the task manager the memory zbrush was using cranked up to nearly 900mb… is that ok with the system configuration i have got or a bit abnormal?
not only this it also takes more than 10 seconds to close
sometimes it also crashes down( not frequently but unexpectedly)

i tweaked the preferences palette options like-

MEM
->virtual mem- 512 (i should have quater of the physical memory alloted to zbrush according to a zbrush vtc tutorial)

->doc undos- 4
->tool undos- 6

-maxpolypermesh- 6
-hd polypermesh- 4

also i want to know if my system is suitable for multithreading
or should i turn off “multithread” and “multirender” tabs
i did a test of multithreading and it says that multithreading is recommended

i downloaded amd dual-core optimizer, installed it but when i checked start menu or the folder in which it was installed there was only an application of 107 kb(which i can’t run) and 2 other doc files namely “license” and “readme”… its happening with other setups also

i have also changed DEP settings in computer performance options making zbrush.exe exception

please help me out coz i can’t work freely with my mesh because of its slow behavior

this is an another tool on which i projected the details from original mesh so its not having the subtools i have in the original tool

but the memory issue still remains the same

You should set Compact Mem to about 1700 with your system, leaving 300 MB of RAM for your OS.

Tool Undo should go back to 4. That’s the biggest cause of slow performance for you.

The other settings look fine, and you should have multithreading enabled.

hey aurick thanks for the reply
i tweaked the preferences as you suggested but its still somewhat making the mem usage reach 800-900 mb when i load zbrush and then a ztool
at high subdivision level it goes beyond 1k and its still taking a lot of time in closing…more than 20 seconds!!!
sometimes i have to end the process from the task manager

How much free space is on the drive where ZBrush is installed? Do you keep the drive defragmented?

Also, what background apps do you have running? How much is in the system tray?

its installed in 25 gb local disk drive out of which 2.5 gb is free
i defragment the drive not frequently but like…once in 3-4 months
usually i don’t run any other application while working on zbrush and if i do they are mostly 3dsmax or photoshop
system tray is utilizing around 95-100 mb ram
