Zbrush & Softimage XSI

Hey guys Im fairly new at this so bare with me. I’ve imported a .obj file into zbrush now how the hell do I make a displacement map and import it back to XSI. I have a tutorial or 2 but the problem is that one of them says import from maya to xsi to zbrush and it tells me practically nothing, and i dont even know where to begin. PLease I really need help I cant find anything anywhere about this.

Thanks

You need to have your model .obj, to do so you can use any program you want…

For help about Displacement Map, open ZB2 and look at the top right of the window for the Help button, and go to “see all Topic” (or something like this). The help step by step on displacement would be at the bottom of the page…
Back to xsi, you will need to set 50% gray as the Alpha offset.
You can also download the Pratical Manual HEre
and look for the tutorial about the Hand.

The XSI tutorial shows the settings that you should use for XSI’s rendering engine. Regarding the steps to create the high resolution version of your model and the displacement map, these are entirely within ZBrush and so are not specific to any platform. You can use any of the tutorials on creating displacement maps, and then return to the XSI tutorial when you finally have exported from ZBrush.

hi, thanks guys for the input. working out great now.

Hi guys im haveing similar problems with my Dmap in the xsi render tree. I used a Change range node like it said in tutorial to change the grey value but im seeing week results. The map just isn’t cotrasted enuf to show any real
detail in the final render. I think its because xsi is reading the black to grey values differently. anyway mabye u can help thx.
