Zbrush running out of memory question

So I’m having an error saying Zbrush is running out of memory when importing a mesh. The mesh is a CAD file given to me from another department and I’m bringing it in from 3DS Max. Max handles it on my machine no problem even though it is a hefty file. I’ve had this problem before back in the old days but haven’t had it well over 3 years easily.

Machine is a custom rig with dual 2.8ghz processors, 128gb’s of RAM and dual 1080 TI with 4GB (or 8, I can’t remember) each.

Including a screenshot.

Is this error talking about video card memory or what?

last time I’ve had this error it was lack of ram memory…but You have more than enough
as a tip I can say than on my machine tool with about 60m polys after some work is using whole 32gb of ram and to zremesh it it’s not enough ram.

I know, I haven’t had this error (at home or work) in years. There’s a place in Zbrush’s preferences where you could turn up the polymesh’s count and I’m pretty sure I’m maxed out on it anyway. That’s why I was asking if it’s considering the video card’s ram also or prioritizes the video ram over the regular system ram.

It’s possible that the structure of the model is bad in some way, such as n-gons and that trying to handle that problem is requiring a lot of extra overhead. Make sure that the model is quads and/or triangles.

Would that cause it to throw that error up even before it hits 30gb of memory?

If the issue only happens with that model/object, it might be as Aurick suggested or could even be corrupted.
