Zbrush questions

Hello,

i am am new to the forum, and I apologise up front if this forum is not the appropriate place to ask this question, but honestly, I could not find a forum to post general questions.

I am looking at purchasing zbrush to do hard surface modelling. I have previous experience with 3ds studio max (over 10 years ago!) and I’m looking at getting back into 3d modelling. My main interest in modelling will be historic aircraft and motor vehicles as well as learning to do sci fi and fantasy figure modelling eventually. The motor vehicles will contain the body panels and engine etc, so they will not be a solid block model, but more like a traditional car.

I’ve looked through the galleries and noticed zbrush models are mainly of figures or beasts, and there is not much hard surface models such as cars, etc.

I am really looking for something that will allow me to model effectively without a huge learning curve. Zbrush caught my eye because it looks more natural in the way it allows the modeller to work compared to the more traditional 3d software.

Before I buy zbrush I wanted to make sure that it is easy to use compared to traditional modelling tools and if it is a good fit for modelling hard surface models, or do,people recommend I use another piece of software in addition to zbrush to get the best hard surface effects.

If there is anybody out there doing hard surface modelling, I would like to get your opinion.

new member too, but old enough inside zb to tell you YES, you can design hard-surface through various tools since the 4rX releases. The new ‘modeling toolset-brush’ in 4r7 seems to be powerful enough to design any kind of surface. Just dl a trial version and figure out.

Thanks for your reply,

I ended up purchasing zbrush and have gone through the getting started manual. It’s going to be a huge learning curve, that’s for sure, but I will get there.

I’m in search now for a good online training course. Was thinking digital-tutors at this stage to get me started.
