zbrush purchased, Looking for course and book recommendations

Hello,

I decided to purchase zbrush as it looks very intuitive. I’ve spent the past week reading the getting started guide and watching all getting started videos on how to use it, and finally used shadowbox and an alpha mask to make a simple logo for my daughter.

I’m now looking for an online course and are thinking of digital tutors as they seem to have a pretty comprehensive course on using this software.

Has anybody got any recommendations on where a total newbie should go from here? My main aim is to create historic models of buildings, armour, vehicles etc as well as some fun projects too.

I would really like a course that starts at the beginning, is hands on and is focussed on a project result. I don’t want to dabble for ages with no results. I’m hoping to find something that will show me the workflow I need.

Hi Bwiemers

I would say Digital Tutors is a good start. They haven’t produced anything for 4r7 yet, but personally I would dig into Zbrush without thinking about the new tools initially.

You could also consider (video tutorials):

3Dmotive.

Eat3D

Zbrushworkshops (now uartsy.com) has some good vids. but probably a bit advance for a total newbie.

Books i recommend:

Zbrush Professional tips and techniques - By Paul Gaboury. There are others, but IMO this is the best and Paul actually works for Pixologic.

In regards to the new tools (4R7), I’m afraid we’re all in the same boat till something comes out. I think Digital Tutors might produce something. The Zbrushclassroom is probably your best bet for these.

‘Mahlikus the Black’ is currently producing some vids for the new tools, which might be worth keeping an eye on:

Nearly forgot, as you are looking at vehicles, this one by Tom Paul is pretty good and the technique can easily be implemented for the other subjects you want to cover.

note: Tom doesn’t use the new tools in 4R7. But is a great example of what can be produced just using dynamesh.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response Treece.

I’m going to subscribe to Digital Tutors, as I’ve tried their trial video and the teaching looks excellent.

I am very excited to get into Zbrush!
