Seeing the coverage so far about Apple’s iPad Pro, are there any thoughts/chance of a dedicated version of ZBrush for that platform?
It would be nice to have, but personally I wouldn’t bet money on it happening.
I wonder who’s going to be the first to embrace it? Maya/3dsmax? vue? photoshop suite? modo? blender?
Well there is Photoshop Express for the iPad, and it is free. Autodesk also have several free apps for us. That’s the thing, why would Pixologic or Autodesk put time and effort into making an iPad app that they will likely have to give for free or sell for a couple of dollars? If they do it would be great, but there just isn’t any money in it.
Don’t forget there are sculpting apps already out there such as (Forger) and no shortage of painting apps either, Sketchbook being one.
Well, the iPad Pro isn’t going to just be a bigger iPad, I don’t consider the current apps on the iPad to be “pro” level. The iPad Pro will run actual functional productivity stuff. Sort of like comparing a Windows Phone to a Windows Desktop. Especially with the same size screen as a Cintiq and much higher resolution and weighs less than 2 pounds.
In general rely in portable OS for high productive and complex graphic tools means waiting for ever to have them refined enough. Cintiq companion Android, currently defunct, hints that. And it was a hardware prepared to get the best of the Android OS for graphics. The same with the 12 inch tablet from Samsung. Having in mind these two precedents we can guess what will happen with the Ipad pro.
Also we have fully productive tools that run windows products as the last Cintiq companion and the lighter Windows Surface. At the end what makes a platform productive are the applications and these kinds of applications takes ages to develop, specially in simplified OS as the potable ones. Also I doubt that anybody will spend a lot of resources in developing specialized complex graphic applications in the Ipad Pro when it is yet a niche and even the pen is optional. This doesn’t mean it will not happen but will take long time to the point that it will be an Ipad pro 2 before having them.
However long it takes, I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised by how many people jump on the iPad Pro bandwagon. Personally, depending on the reviews, I can see myself replacing the iPad I have now with a Pro when I get next years Tax refund. If for nothing else than to read my graphics magazines full size. Woo Woo…
I have heard good things about the digitizer, how you literally feel like you’re drawing RIGHT ON the surface. I’m a little leery of the latency but am interested enough to keep tracking reviews as more people use it for longer periods of time.
I would be really happy with the new surface 4 or better the surface book

Zbrush works already OK in my companion 1, but these beasts are a lot faster. And there is no need of waiting years for anyone developing software, if they really do.
Display - YES!!
Specs - ~OK
Pen - Cool
Keyboard - Well, reinvented cool.
OS - wtf??
Professionally almost useless imho.
I tried so many apps for the ipad. There are some cool painting apps out there, no doubt.
But everything have to be reinvented or collapsed for limited iOS.
I thought about it. Seriously. It is lovely looking. Apple advertising is good.
But as long as your desktop apps are not corresponding one to one…
Splendid cool looking extra gem you can put out during meetings for everyone to see, while you work with serious stuff on your knees.
This product will fade away like the Android Cintiq - if there wouldn’t be these crazy Apple freaks buying everything
