Zbrush max polycount related with hardware

Yesterday Luxology released that Modo 701 will handle 60 million polygons. What is related for polycount in Zbrush (CPU, RAM, GPU or VRAM)? What is maximum poly count on which hardware rig?

It might depend on what kind of hardware you’re looking at. Right now with zbrush using 4GB of ram (32bit) I can take the Earthquake example model to 72million total points and still sculpt. I’m fairly certain I could go higher still if I split it into more subtools. The only problem I can see is if the saved tool were to be larger than 4GB, but if I were ever shooting for that much minute detail I’d probably have chunks of the model saved as separate tools even. So I depending on the model, I might not find a ceiling that matters.

HD Geometry could probably get me a pretty large polygon count as well if I absolutely needed everything on the same tool, but that’s a feature I don’t often use.

HD Geometry can get into the billions.
