Zbrush Material and color locked onto dark grey

Good day.

I have been trying to figure this one out. So at some point, my mesh managed to get split into two. The only reason I knew this was because I’ve been trying to troubleshoot what happened to my mesh IN Zbrush, mostly, the material and color. It appears in Zbrush as masked, but it’s not, plus for the obvious reason, I can edit the topology, sculpt on etc.
So, I figured I’d export the mesh as an obj and found out through the outliner, and selecting, that the mesh was split in half. No worries. I did a couple things. In maya I combined them and imported. Another, I did in another ztool, I used dynamesh to join, if that was the issue.
However, neither solution still seems to clear whatever is going on inside of that mesh and subtool. It’s still displaying the dark grey, which is annoying. I’ve tried reapplying different materials, and yes, I can get the toy plastic or chrome, but it’s still dark grey. I’ve done the obvious, set the Mrgb on so as to fillobject with both simultaneously. Still, dark grey.

Any ideas?

So,
I created a new ztool, just a Shane Olson sphere and ruler subtools. They were the default skinshader white. I then loaded the Ztool, after filling the ruler and ball subtool with white and skin shader using the Mrgb and fillobject commands.

The mesh loaded white. So I’m going to fill it with the appropriate shaders and see if that fixes the files ;).

Who knows?

The mesh might have been split if you exported with polygroups (Tool: Export: Grp)

As for the model being a dark grey, it’s possible it doesn’t have any polypaint channel enabled. Make sure MRGB is turned on with its RGB intensity set too 100 BEFORE entering Edit mode (if the Tool is already in Edit mode then you can simply turn it off, enable the appropriate MRGB draw settings, and then re-enter Edit mode).
