Zbrush Mask Issue - Displacing polygons like the level brush

Ok I don’t know what to do, or if i’m doing something wrong, but for some reason my Mask Brush is messed up. instead of creating a black mask like normal, it proceeds to displace my mesh and not even add any color. It happened suddenly, but affects the mesh the same way even when i turn off the ZAdd property, and even after a program restart.

It’s definitely frustrating me, and I’d love to know if I’m doing something to cause this or if it’s a freak issue. I don’t always have the problem, on new meshes it’s fine and new tools.

Here is an image. Any ideas??

It’s because you are using the “BumpViewerMaterial” from the Standard Materials palette. That is normal behavior for that material. Select a different material and all will be fine.

Wow. Thank you! I didn’t know that material would cause a bug like that. I’ve been restarting the program until it fixed itself, never would have thought about the material.

Thanks again!

It’s not a bug, it is how the BumpViewerMaterial works - it is to help you visualize how a bump map would look, so displaces the model according to shades of grey painted on it. That’s why the masked area (which is dark grey) looks like it does.
