I am working with NickZ’s athletic human male, and I wanted to isolate the head to modify/paint it. I exported the lowest poly version to max and it keeps all of the grouping the same as if I load up the ztool in zbrush, however if I import the same file to zbrush I am not able to see the groups… I don’t want to use the ztool that includes all 5 subdivisions, because I only have need for the lowest poly for game use. Do I really have to export to max, isolate the head, then import the head back into zbrush? It seems unnecessary when the grouping obviously still exists when max can recognize it. Any advice on this topic?
Is “Import PolyGroups” enabled in “Preferences > Importexport > Import”?
Yes, it’s on.
I don’t have Max so I can’t be definite on this. Some things you can check out. Check your Max export settings for obj. export. Also, in ZBrush, in “Preferences > Importexport > Import”, enable “Import Mat As Groups” in case Max is seeing your polygroups as Material ID’s.
I even tried importing back in the unedited export Zbrush -> Zbrush. I will try to export it again and see if it will import back in with polygroups
If the polygroups are not exporting out of ZBrush, make sure in “Tool > Export” that “Grp” (export sub groups) is enabled.
Ok I got it figured out, sort of. The polygroups are in fact still there… but when i first drew the object onto the canvas it didnt seem to take any inputs from the tool menus… but i selected edit, deselected edit, hit ctrl-z to erase the model, then drew it again and viola it worked… it might be because its a fresh install of zbrush (i reinstalled windows) or a bug, but im fine with this workaround for now… i might reinstall again later on if it gets too annoying
