ZBrush lockup when overwriting file

Me again…no pictures but a question/problem. I’m using 123b on WinXP with NTFS.

I can save/export anything just fine except when I try to replace a file on disk. If I try to save as the same filename as something existing, it asks if I want to replace.

As soon as I say ‘okay’ ZB locks up tight. 98-99% processor usage and I have to kill it. :frowning: Repeatable. Yes, very repeatable. I’ve tried it with exporting tools and pictures.

Is this a known thing or something specific with my system? (P4 2gz 512ram) I don’t remember having this problem on my old Win98 machine (my old PII450 is gone for good! yay). I may have, just don’t remember. But it sounds vaguely familiar…so did a search here but came up empty.

Workaround? Or is this just a ‘then don’t do that’ kinda thing?

Thanks!

I have never had the same problem, and don’t recall off hand anyone who does. I’m running XP Pro, but not NTFS. It sounds like it is most likely something on your system that is causing this, but I don’t know what it could be.

Hi Cricket
I’ve had the same problem, running XP Pro. I did a bunch of work to an rather large Zdoc, tried to save over the existing file, and WHAM! Locked up. NEVER have that problem using “Save As” and changing the name, though. If you feel the need to delete the previous work, just delete it. It only seems to happen after a LOT of work has been done

And I’ve only had this problem with Zdocs, NOT tools or anything else.

Just don’t do it, for the time being! I’m pretty sure that’s a problem being addressed.

Okay…thanks for the response. I’ll be sure not to ‘do that’ anymore  Glad to think they’re aware of it and hope it’s fixed in the killer version coming up!

Back to my cave…

I’ve never had a problem…I just replace the file, and I also render a lot, and am always updating my render…I use Win2KPro, and I use ‘Save As’ all the time, saving under the same name. I trust ‘Save As’…

I had that problem too once , but it only happened when i pressed the “Save” button instead of “Save as” (this one doesnt lock up the pc.) this is on a similar system only not NTFS.

I have never had the problem. I’m using XP corporate with NTFS, AMD 950, Asus MB, GeForce IV MX, 768 RAM. I also use XP with only one user with full admin rights.
Hope you get it figured out

I just tested with the document and it happened again. Using ‘Save As’ but saving over a previous save.

I mentioned some of my specs above, but am using GEForce 64 megger. Don’t remember exactly which GEForce 64 megger. And it’s a Maxtor drive. No virus checkers or memory managers running or anything like that.

Just hope they are aware that some users have problems with this. Those sporadic things are a bear to track down.

Now I have to reboot 'cause when I pulled Task Manager up to kill Z (oh how horribly sad that sounds) I accidentally killed the wrong process :o and didn’t notice what it was. Too many Benadryls. Yes, that’s why, too many Benadryls.

XP Home Edition…have had this problem once or twice, but not all the time (strange???).

I’ve had the same problem since I bought ZBrush in January. (I thought it was just me!) I finally decided to stop trying to do that. (I’m using Windows ME.)

I have Win XP Home edition and 512 RAM, a 32 meg video card and a P4.

This happens to me occasionally. The only thing that I notice about it happening is that I am working on a large complex canvas. Same thing happens when I use the snapshot tool on a large complex canvas after I’ve been working for quite a while.

I also noticed when I upped the memory in preferences that it doesn’t happen quite so often as it did with snapshot. Don’t know if that’s related or not.
