ZBrush Keyshot Materials/Color ID

In Maya, if I paint a face/poly of one object with a color and paint other faces with another color, I can then in Keyshot assign different materials to each face or group of faces to which I applied different colors within the same object/model.

I couldn’t do the same with ZBrush, unless I split the subtool into parts and assign different colors to each subtool that originated from one subtool. For example, a car body that has a black hood must be separated into two subtools to assign different materials to the body and hood in Keyshot.

I do not have KeyShot bridge as I do not frequently use Keyshot to render my ZB projects.

Also, this is what I do to apply different colors within the same subtool in ZBrush:

  • I assign different polygroups to a subtool surface that I want to apply a different colors to.
  • Switch to RGB, select a color then press Fill Object upon isolating each polygroup.
  • I import the subtool as obj with Polypaint option checked.
  • ZBrush does create an mtl file with the obj file that contains material/color info.

I did try all ZB standard materials including flat, and made sure to fill the polygroup with M, RGB and even MRGB selected in different attempts.

In Keyshot under the texture tab, I did try Vertex Color, but that turns the whole model into black.

Would truly appreciate any help.
