ZBrush keeps switching to the transpose brush instead of my hot keyed brush

Got this minor issue but it’s honestly extremely disruptive to my work flow. I bind my most used brushes to individual hot keys (1-5) and I am having this issue that when I am using the transpose line or gizmo and then hit one of these brush hotkeys, instead of loading that brush it instead loads the transpose brush. If I hit the brush hotkey a second time I get the right brush, but it’s just really annoying, especially when the transpose brush is such a destructive brush; multiple times I have checked my model over only to realise at some point in the past I must have accidently touched my model with the tranpose brush active and completely messed it up.

Could it please be fixed so that you actually get the brush you want when hotkeys are pressed when the transpose line or gizmo are active?

Hello @Boozebeard,

This hasn’t been any different in any previous version of ZBrush. If you’d like to make a feature request, please do so at ZBrush Support, with the email address your ZBrush license is registered to. We do not use the community Usage Questions forums for the tracking of feature requests.

For what it is worth, I recommend getting used to the 3 letter combo system for brushes. It is the path of least resistance for the program, and intuitive once you are used to it. It would also avoid what you are running into here. There are many, many brushes, and not a lot of single -press keyboard real estate available for them without displacing other useful functions. The modifier keys like Shift, Alt, and Ctrl all have hard coded functions related to brush behavior that are very likely to result in conflicts if you make them part of a brush shortcut.

It is always B (to activate the pop up) - The first letter of the brush- and then a letter unique to that brush which is also frequently determined by its name. However, you can change that last letter to be whatever you want.

Custom Pop ups are also a good way of delivering a selection of situational brushes to wherever you are working on the canvas with a single key.

You will of course do whatever works best for you. However just consider that you will be fighting the program in a number of ways with things that cannot be easily changed.

Thank you!

Thanks, that’s an objectively less efficient way to work though. I do 99% of my work with like 3 brushes and probably 99% of my hotkey use is swapping between them (I guess excluding changing my brush size). Makes absolutely no sense to make that anything more than a 1 button hotkey and if doing so is really fighting the program then that’s a huge oversite of one of the must fundamental UX interaction of the entire program.

I have this exact problem and it drives me insane!!!

For ages I thought it was just me not hitting the number key hard enough. I also need to press the number multiple times before it switches properly. Most of the time it doesnt switch then you make a mess of your mesh and have to undo.

Please could you look into this guys? hitting 3 keys to get the brush you want isn’t fast enough.

Thanks!!
