Please go check out the 3D Graphics forum at http://www.talkgraphics.com/. They are s l o w l y starting to wake up over there and realize this program is serious!
Talkgraphics is supported by Xara. They support their own software the strongest, but there are quite a few forums that have nothing to do with Xara. Nice, very talented group there. Worth a look!
As it goes I ended up with ZBrush because someone posted a link in in the painter forum at talkgraphics about a year ago.
EDIT: I played with the demo for about 5 minutes and knew I had to have this program even though I was broke at the time.

I found it quite by accident myself. Someone had sent me an animation of a mouse singing to a block of cheese, and I loved it so much, I went to the artist’s website to see what software he used. It was not ZBrush, but there was a link from his site. I think I was a demo user for about 10 days before I finally bought it. Would have been sooner, but I had to wait until payday.
I think i found zbrush because of a banner on renderosity 
though I had seen Pix’s Gargaman and gold Egyptian and was impressed, I didn’t get the demo until I stumbled across a demo cd from 3d world magazine…was quickly bored with the poser3 program that I had bought the magazine for and loaded the zbrush demo 1.0 and have been in love since…and when I used the 1.0 for whatever reason, I couldn’t multitask …I thought it was just a memory hog or something until I got the present 1.23b and then my eyes were really opened…and now I can open five to six programs at once while working in z… 
I ran out of toilet paper and found a computer mag and started ripping out pages and, well, I probably should stop there. I don’t want to get too graphic with so many sensitive people around. But you get the idea.

I read a review in gamedev magazine for it, it got a great review, so I checked out their site. Then I saw that there was a downloadable demo. yay! I did not sleep for three days. When I woke up I had purchased the full version. This stuff is bad for your health.
