Zbrush gets a mention in Cinefex

It was nice to see ZBrush get a nod from the guys at Weta in an article about The Return of the King.

The Witch King’s armour was detailed using it.

Hope it’s not too long before the new version is released - does anyone know if it is features or stability that is being worked on?

Thanks,

Steve

I hope it isn’t stability. But I got a feeling that’s why it’s been delayed for so long. Either way though, I am sure they will release a great product when it comes out. And that’s good to hear of at least one thing that was done in Zbrush. I posted a thread a while back asking that about that very question.

Thanks for sharing.

I know that ZBrush was used in many different ways on the movie. For example, it was involved in their work on the digital horses, which were used extensively in the battle scenes.

We are currently working on an announcement about the new version’s features. Keep your eyes peeled. When you read it, I have a feeling you’ll appreciate the time that has been spent on this final free upgrade.

“Keep your eyes peeled”

Isn’t that a very odd saying? I wonder where it came from? We all know it means to keep a watch out for something, but what’s up with the peeling part? Maybe it means to literally keep your eyelids open, as in peeled back, not blinking so you don’t miss a thing?

Anyway, I will keep my eyes peeled.

To keep your eyes peeled for something is to keep them wide open, to keep a sharp lookout. The earliest known form of the frontier expression, recorded in 1833, was to ‘keep your eyes skinned’ (presumably meaning with the lids drawn back): ‘I wish I may be shot if I don’t think you had better keep your eyes skinned so that you can look powerful sharp…’" From “Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins” by Aurick(Facts on File, New York, 1997).

(some editing!!)

OMG I am ready to lose it, I am so excited.
Not to sound threating or anything but my patience is running thin. I am forced to do tedious, time consuming work in WIngs to hold me over but its starting to not work. I wanted to use the new ZB for an expose2 entry and the a soon to close contest but I am not sure if I should wait or not…I am going mad … must…
fine…
hellppp…

New version?
There’s a new version?
To Zbrush?
Wow!!!
When?

lol @ rtyer

i was out for dinner last night with the guy responsible for the Baradur destruction sequence, he also did the balrog with about 4 other people in the first movie. he said he was quite impressed with Zbrushes capabilities. thats a pretty big pat on the back in my book. :+1: :+1:

I can feel the Tesla hum from the hard-working beta testers – it’s making my lights flicker!

Nothing like a tesla hum.

oh, i’m so very peeled here.

tjaden…gasperdoochies…you were out smoozin’ with the big dawgs in the digi world eh? Though like everyone else, I anxiously await the upgrade. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind.

  1. Are you in the biz?

  2. Did they seem to think, at dinner that zbrush will be seen more as a mainsteam product like it’s competitors (maya etc…}

  3. What do the professionals eat at dinner? At this point I am willing to change my dietary intake if that will make a difference

  4. Do we know of any other movies the Weta people might be working on using zbrush at this moment or in the very near future? Or was Rotk probably a one time deal for them with regards to using zbrush?(that is not to be taken as a negative statement but a question of curiosity of where the future of the all powerful Z maybe going)

Thanx
Ron

Hey ron,

my flatmate is Grey’s hairdresser, and a good friend. wellington isn’t such a big city. so i tagged along for dinner.

  1. i wish i was in the business. it definitely feels like i’m in the right place at the right time. and if i keep learning zbrush…who knows.

  2. i briefly mentioned that i had bought a new program called zbrush and he said he had seen it in use and was quite impressed with what they were doing. so thats all i can really tell you.

  3. we were at monsoon poon an indian resturant in Blair St.

  4. i know king kong is in the works and i think if they used it in ROTK ehy not kong.

Grey is leaving to work on a feature length animated film in the UK. he has been an absolute icon for me in what i’m trying to learn and i only hope that one day i can create a fraction of he’s capable of.

At the dinner, did you hear anyone’s tesla hum.
It could be the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for.
I had dinner with Larry Leady, he cleans the Staten Island Ferry boat.
We ate at the dollar menu at Mcdonald’s, and he never heard about Zbrush.
But I swear to God: his tesla hummed all night.

Rtyer, I actually DID Laugh out Loud, good one.

Roy
