Zbrush Freeze When zoomed in and rotating on objects with >500 Points

System:

AMD 2990WX Threadripper
64 GB RAM
GeForce 1070 GTX

Using 2019.1.2

Hey everybody;

This started when I updated my visual drivers and updated the Windows 10 version 1903. When using zBrush and zoomed into any geometry, Zbrush starts to hang and freeze on me when I try to rotate and sculpt. My CPU is running fine. The program actually runs fast as well when it doesn’t freeze. But I can’t seem to lock down the exact problem.

I’ve rolled back my windows update and the GPU drivers but It doesn’t seem to help and I need some solutions as I have a deadline looming. Did anybody experience similar issues?

I’ve monitored the CPU during these freezes and the load on the CPU hits up to 30/40 percent during freezes. I’ve reinstalled the program as well, but there are no improvements and I need a fix as soon as possible.

Hello @cloganart

Sorry you’re having some trouble!

One important question: Does this behavior happen on a fresh restart of the program, or only after loading a specific file? In the case of the latter, there may be an issue with the file.

In the case of it being a general issue with Zbrush’s operation, the only thing I can think of that has a performance impact when zoomed in closely are the real time preview shadows. They have a greater impact when close in. Disabling shadows in Render> Render Properties> Shadows may improve performance when zoomed in, or possibly bypass whatever issue you’re experiencing.

:warning:Make sure to disable any active anti-virus when performing program installation. Failure to do so can sometimes result in issues with your installation.

Otherwise, since you can pinpoint when the trouble started, and it coincided with some significant changes to your configuration, one would tend to suspect some newly introduced issue. Unfortunately we’re not really equipped to help you with that here. If nothing else helps, you will have to contact Support and make a ticket. They can help you work through the issue.

Good luck!

Hey there Sorry for the late reply,

But the solution was actually a new CPU cooler because the AiO i had was not working properly and overheating the system. All set after a Noctua Cooler!
