While you’re saving money, my recommendation would be to learn Sculptris, which is free.
That’s a bummer. I hadn’t seen that change. It’s a shame that yet another company has ended their customers ability to control the fate of their own purchase.
Wow, right when I wanted to buy ZBrush from somebody… hobby for me as well 
I wish there could be a version for non commercial purpose, that is not a student version
