What is the best way to take a sculpted tool and output sewing pattern shapes that could be cut from flat fabric and sewn together to reproduce the 3d object? Something to do with the UV mapping? Not sure how to get started.
Thanks

You might want to search “marvelous designer 2” and take a look at it… possibly communicate with the developer. They also make a sewing design program, so I imagine they might have an idea or two if you show interest in their software. I’d love it if ZB had the functionality of Marvelous designer, but so far as I know it’s not even in the works… Still have to sculpt drapery like the sculptors of old… though thankfully no chisels are required.
How very interesting! I am actually working out a pattern to make a teddy bear, but I am also interested in designing clothes. Thanks for the info.
For a teddy bear… maybe you could slice it into polygroups where you want the seams to be and then use guide to split the UV straight down the back (if you want a symmetrical sewing pattern) then unwrap the UV using polygroups… then maybe you can use the polygroups as guides for the pieces of fabric… you’d just have to figure out the scale then and of course add a thin border to each section of fabric to allow the real sewing to take place.
There might be a better way, but that’s what comes to mind… alternatively you could just polypaint the seems on and export the unwrapped projected texture to photoshop or some such and do something similarly that way. You might want to look at a real teddybear to decide where it’s best to put the seams first if you don’t have a firm idea. You could also polypaint labels right onto the model to make sure you track all the fabric sections correctly if you find unwrapped UVS at all confusing…
Got this to work using UV Master which I hadn’t used before. Thanks for your help.
Glad I could be of help to someone, Sorry I neglected to mention UV master was an integral part of the process.
