zbrush doesn't load

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a problem with my 4R5 installation at work.

After upgrading to R5 zbrush took about 10 minutes to load, that was the only time I could start it and it worked fine the first run.
Since then all I get is the floppy disk loading icon so I’m using the R4 backup instead which was fine but now I really could need one of the new features of R5.
There are no fancy brushes or the like in the startup and I’m not loading previous files.

Please help

More info, system specs, OS etc…

Windows 7

CPU: AMD FX™-4100 Quad Core Processor
Mainboard: Asus M5a/8L-M/USB3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel 669.7 MHz
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6600 Series

I’m also having the same issue. Sometimes it starts almost right away, and sometimes it takes upwards of 10min to start. All drivers are up to date, and only started having this problem with R5. According to the Task Manger, while zbrush is trying to load its using about 25% of the CPU, and about 600,000k of RAM.

Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 OC ~3ghz
MOBO: Nvidia 790i ultra
RAM: 8gb DDR3 1600mhz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX470

Zbrush is installed on a Intel SSD with about 30gb free on the drive.

Same here

Windows 7 x64
CPU: I7-2600 3.4 Ghz
12GB RAM
nVidia 550 TI

It looks like I found a fix. I believe that its something to do with the zstartup files that were copied over when it was updating.

  1. Download the full install .exe for R5
  2. Back up your zstartup folder if you want any of your settings saved.
  3. Uninstall Zbrush
  4. Go to the original installation folder and delete any folders that remained in there.
  5. Reinstall Zbrush

Hopefully it will work for you as it did me.
