Zbrush Core Workflow and Feature Questions

hi there,

I´ve found no dedicated Zbrush Core forum, so I am posting my questions right here
(as the main area seems only for showing off some content, but not to ask questions, which feels a little weired?!?!)

First of all, hello to the forum and community ! I am a Amateur 3D environment artist and I used tools like
Sculptris, Blender, Modo Indie and also a Zbrush 4 trail to sculpt things (obviously) :wink:

Zbrush´s sculpting feels best, by far - with only sculptris comming close to it.

Now, that the “Core” version is availible to us, I can see an alternative to another app in that price-region, called “3D-Coat”.

I´ve read the feature comparison between Zbrush and Core already, but some things are not clear to me.

1st:

Does Core have “ZRemesher” included? I really need a tool to get automated, smooth and even topology-flow
of meshes, I imported from other applications (that do not have a smooth and even edgeflow).

2nd:

Does Core have “Decimation Master”, to reduce polycount, before exporting to other apps?

3rd:

Does Core support custom Alphas (so you can bring in your own heightmap/alpha textures) for customizing a brush?

4th:

last:

Does Core support displacement maps - like you have a heightmap and want to project this onto a plane, so the
plan gets displaced by it. i.e. sculping by heightmap?

I really need this features (or at least as close as possible workarounds for them) in order to buy/work with Core…

hmmm - is this forum not read by moderators? I think the support should have answered my questions within 2 days now… but still no replys?! looks like the support of Pixologic is a bit slow

Well - this is a clear sign to not buy into Zbrush or Puixologic products. Support seems to be non-existent.

- Core Does not have ZRemesher. You could use Dynamesh to get the major form of your sculpt, then export an .obj file and use the auto topology tool in Modo. Then export that .obj and import it into ZBrush.

- I’m pretty sure Core Does not have Decimation Master. The link in there documentation isn’t working at the moment for me to check. I think you only get access to Dynamesh.

3rd:

Does Core support custom Alphas (so you can bring in your own heightmap/alpha textures) for customizing a brush?

- You should be able to import custom alphas just fine. There is a limitation on brushes you can import though.

4th:

- If I’m not mistaken, no custom plugins/scripts work with the software.

last:

- Core does not have UVs or baking options. If you just wanted to displace the mesh, you could probably just do this with an alpha made in photoshop.

I also had a question, can you load a save file from zbrush trial to zbrushcore?

No, that would not be possible for any native-format file. You would have to export as OBJ, which you could then import into ZBrushCore.
