zbrush computer

Like many others I am novice to this hobby.
And that is what it is for me a hobby.
I have a few computers that serve me and my better half quite well, regarding business work, online etc.
But since I have started working with 3d and zbrush in particular the new computer bug has bitten me.
I for one am envious of those of you who are creating objects in the million and more count. I read a count recently that gave a ten million number.
Now.
My system at the moment is groaning under a 300000 count.
I max out at 512mb ram, Pentium 4 dell dimension, with a supplementary graphics card
What is the cheapest I can buy another computer just for zbrush and what are the memory and speed numbers anyone thinks is the minimum for better than basic working in zbrush?
Any comments or opinions welcome.
( hobby only, animation not a factor)

This is the machine I bought from Wal-Mart. It was $800, plus $160 dollars more for 1 GB RAM, which I got from newegg.com.

I’m pretty pleased with it, and for under a grand I got a pretty good machine. If you check the benchmark thread :here: you will see it’s actually faster than most other machines that took part in the benchmarking test.

My only advice to you is this, get as much RAM as possible. I have 1.5 GB, and it really improved the speed of Z2, especially since it doesn’t have to write to the hard drive as often.

I think the most I have subdivided to was around 4 million polygons. But I’m sure I could go further, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

Hope this helps.

wchamlet, exactly what I am looking for, many thanks.
