Zbrush causes sound stuttering in other apps(Youtube, Winamp, VLC etc)

Hey guys,
I really hope you can help me out on this issue as it’s really annoying as one can imagine. Basically when I use Zbrush 2018(No issue in 4R7 or 4R6) every time I rotate the model the sound that’s playing in any other app stutters. I have 32gb ram, 970 and 4790k. As far as task manager the cpu load doesn’t really go over 50-60.

What I tried: Lowering Zbrush cpu to low priority; doesn’t work as it resets. Disabling multi threading in Zbrush; works but then working becomes really sluggish. Resetting settings, and re-optimizing multi threading in zbrush; no dice.

I’d love some ideas on this!

Hi Devmaxx.

To troubleshoot your specific issue you will need make a support ticket. Also be sure to upgrade to the most recent version of Zbrush–it’s free for registered users, and obsolete versions are not officially supported.

As far as general observation, I get this problem a lot just with YouTube running in the background and running any other resource intensive program like a game, not just Zbrush. Having open YouTube videos playing can be surprisingly demanding, and the source of many stuttering issues for me.

Also remember while Zbrush may idle at one level, its resource demand is going to spike drastically during operations even as simple as rotating a high density mesh while previewing a lower density mesh to improve performance the way ZB does. Depending on your system, you may always see some performance impact during these spikes with multiple applications running. Under no circumstance would I want to impair Zbrush’s performance by kneecapping its processes. If you have Zbrush open, it’s because you need to use it at its full capacity, and I have no idea what imapct reducing its process priority might have on program stability. Zbrush can make large demands of both your CPU and available memory.

How about setting windows to leave one CPU free, vs setting the priority?

Task Manager>Details>Zbrush right click, set affinity

Now, you’re totally right that it resets this command every time you restart the program, but there’s a few utilities out there that will ‘remember’ it for you.
