Introducing ZBrush (Paperback)
by Eric Keller (Author)

Someone has bought it What do you think about it?
version 3,1 covered?
I ahve Zbrush for long time but i didn’t use it really for some month
I need to re-learn again the basics
thanks

Hi all. Ive not posted any of my work here because in fact I have done so little with Zbrush I wouldn’t want to embarrass myself. Zbrush has such a steep learning curve that it really is hard to use for a day or so and then come back try using it again later. Unless you are a pro and use it all the time day in day out it seems to me to be one tough cookie to learn and use. But I’m determined to do it!
I must say though due to the lack of any real manual or training book it has made my learning really hard. There are some great video tutorials and such. Which have been a great help. But having a book to hold in your hands and sit and read just seems to make a big difference to some of us of the “old school” of learning.
So, onto “Introducing Zbrush” by Eric Keller…

Let me first say I have not done any of the projects yet, I want to read it all the way thru first, than try them. But my first impression of the projects are that 2 out of 3 aren't that bad and I want to try them all and hope to learn from them. But, the first on, his "underwater diving bell" ???, why? Not only does it seem like a not very good idea to start with, but the final render seems so blah. The skull project seems on the other hand no doubt will be very useful and I am looking forward to jumping into it on the weekend. And the final big project of the book - Medusa and her head of snakes, looks as if it will really tax my skills if I have any and should be a good learning project. So over all though, I having not read the entire book yet, it does seem useful, then again any thing thrown to a drowning man (or woman mind you) is very gratefully accepted. I just wish he could have collect some better examples of Zbrush's power in the Gallery section, very disappointing.

Right, so until other books are released, it is a good buy, I would say a solid 6 out of ten. Will let you know how I get along with the projects.

Many thanks

I think i need to relearn it from the basics
Is it only a tutorial book or it covert also interface and Zbrush features ?

Hi, Im sorry if I made my review seem like its only a tutorial book. It does cover all the basic rather well. And yes if you need to re-learn the basics, like I do, then the book is good for that reason, that’s why I gave it a 6 out of 10. If it had only been a project book/tutorial book it would have been much lower.
Sorry for the confusion. Grab the book, its a good read and will help with learning the basics. Even Eric Keller states that this is a basic book and some of the more advanced features will be covered by another writer in an upcoming book.

ZBrush Character Creation: Advanced Digital Sculpting (Paperback)
by Scott Spencer (Author)

Thanks a lot

i will coomand it by amazone.ca

I feel that it’s useful to have written documentation that I can refer to while working on a project or when I’m away from the computer to try and grasp concepts and how some of the tools work.

This book is project based and with use of the index in the back can be used as somewhat of a quick reference.

I just wish that Z-Brush 3.1 came with a reference manual.

I’m confused; but then thats normal for me. Amazon says its available for preorder but nothing about it being available. You guys have a special insider access or is the Amazon site wrong?

Sorry, I should’ve made it clear. I was refering to the “Introducing Z-Brush” book and not the “Character Creation” book.

“Introducing Z-Brush” is currently available through Amazon.
