ZBrush and Poser

I’m in awe of the talent of all the members. This board really jumps. I’m still learning ZBrush and hope to soon grace this forum with something that reflects all the wonderful help and scripts posted by this generous community.

In the meantime, I enjoy seeing anything that uses ZBrush along with other programs. Mixing such tools only opens doors to the creativity.

Having said that I am losing my mind over waiting for the 1.5 upgrade…Now I’m starting to hear voices in my head thinking about the possiblities of ZBrush and the new Poser 5 coming down the pike.

For those who enjoy using the two together let your imaginations fly…SNEAK PEEK

I don’t know why but Poser figures always remind me of processed cheese that comes in those squeezy tubes. Or space food sticks.

With the new organic modelling tool I wouldn’t be surprised to see less poser use in ZBrush.

However, I find that ZBrush is great for making image hoses in Painter.

Thanks for the information Floy! I have Poser 4 but use it very infrequently. It looks as if the next version will have much more power and will empower the user during the creative process. I am just beginning to explore other 3D apps in a more serious matter and P5 does indeed look enticing. I will await further review of it but most likely will upgrade to it. The hair and skin tools look really nice.

Thanks for that link Floy. I hadn’t seen anything about 5 only heard. It does look like it’s going to be great. I use poser a lot and love it. I use Poser, Vue and Zbrush. I happen to think the three programs complement each other beautifully. With the updates coming for Poser and Z I think we will have some very super software.

I use Poser quite a bit, myself. Mark it down for laziness if you want, but I often prefer to import a Poser mesh into ZBrush if I need a human figure simply because it gives me a good starting point and I really suck at modeling people.

Poser and ZBrush DO play very nicely together. The first import into ZBrush takes a bit of effort just to get the steps down, but after one or two it’s a snap.

As for the carbon copy look of Poser figures, that’s really due to the fact that most people don’t bother to make the character unique. With something like 400+ morph dials at your service, it’s possible to create nearly any person from Michael or Victoria. But most people turn one or two dials (if that) and call it “art.”

P5 does look awesome, no doubt! But there are a few concerns that I have about it, too. The hair and clothes, for example, are clearly not based on current geometry techniques. It looks like both are “grown” within Poser. Can you imagine exporting hair as an OBJ that is made up of 10,000 strands? How many polygons would that be? And how do you go about texturing cloth that is based on splines rather than polygons? There are a lot of questions left to be answered by Cooper!

On the other hand, that face lab looks like the cat’s meow! Wow!

I agree with aurick, poser has it’s place if you take the time to use it well. I’ve had Poser4 for a few years now, and I do get frustrated with it’s limitations. #5 looks like it might have solved some of those. However, I will wait till I see the price, I have no choice, I just blew my budget on ZBrush!

Floy Joy, it is great news. As Northstarr mentioned, I did also get frustrated with the limitations of Poser. It was a reason why I bought Zbrush.

I agree that ZBrush is a nice program, and has a great potential. However, it is complicated, and kind of tricky, and it seems to have serious limitations (in the current version) to cooperate with other 3D programs. Probably, I was given illusions by the overstated cheers, and encouragements. I was trying to use Poser, and Zbrush, and spent lots of my time. I am not sure it was a good idea.

I am now using Zbrush infrequently. I will appreciate it, if you can give me a good direction.

Does Multimarkers tool work for imported objects in Zbrush 1.5 ?
