ZBrush and Cinema 4D "Help!"

Hello all! I haven’t purchased ZBrush yet! I’m waiting for the universal binary to come out first (that and I’m trying to deceide between Modo and Zbrush). But I’m just wondering… I’m looking to get into facial/character design and animation. Modeling characters in C4D is kind of a pain in the @ss.

Since you guys are pros on ZBrush… what do you guys normaly do? Create your objects in ZBrush=>C4D or C4D=>Zbrush or ZBrush=>C4D=>ZBrush? What would be best if deciding to animate later?

There is a “ZBRUSH-C4D” - pipeline tut. at the tutorials-forum !
If you already have C4D i think you get more out of ZBrush then a Modo-C4D combination !

I am a C4D user too, and I love Zbrush with it. It works really well. Just make sure you mirror the texture vertically when you bring it in to C4d.

Finally, a C4D user! How do you work it out. Do you usually model in C4D first or in ZBrush first?

Thanks for the info. I did a search and couldn’t find the tutorial.

There ya go  Im gonna have a read it myself now…

I’m not a pro, but my workflow (fwiw) is:

build basic mesh and rough rig in C4D
export obj to ZB and use basic brushes and move to play with the low res mesh
back into C4D to refine the mesh (or Silo for new topology if necessary)
sub-div once in C4D using hyperNURB option (I like the result for organic modeling)
export to ZB for detailing
back to C4D for rendering

It’s a bit convoluted, but I do this for fun not profit, so time and efficiency are not important elements for me. When exporting obj from C4D, I use a free plug called RipTide (keeps groups intact etc).

Thanx a lot guys. You’ve been a lot of help. I haven’t used C4D for head and character modeling so it’ll be a new thing for me. Haven’t found any good head tutorials for it. But I’ll find my way through.

Hi,

I’m a C4D user who has been exploring ZBrush lately also. The ZBrush to C4D Pipeline is a good reference for me, but what is more is that the authors have been very helpful to me in learning how to bridge the two programs. You can see the threads in CGTalk’s C4D forum at:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=349924&page=1&pp=15

And an earlier thread at:

Perhaps these discussions will be useful to you. Personally I have found the whole export/import aspect of ZBrush a little tricky, but once you begin to understand the interactions and get the settings right on both sides you can move between the programs with ease.
