Zbrush and 2D videogame

[gamethumbnail.jpg]

Hello all,

Just wanted to share this with everyone…
It is a free game I made all by myself using Zbrush for all the background work (all the nature stuff: Trees, flowers, rocks)

My next scroller will use Zbrush for the charictors too. this game I just used Wings and Blender with the vertex colors… next game I will use Zbrush and skin everything first before I animate.

This game took me 3 days to make , and only has 3 levels… I think I may stop development on this project after 2 more levels…

Zbrush sure made it easy to make the nature stuff… the masking came out perfect with verry little effort…

I sure enjoyed this hobbie project… I may include this in my portfolio…
The next project will be a space shooter like the old Nintendo game Metroid… player will have the freedom of going in various directions, and finding new tools to help in the quest…

My new gameing hobbie is going to be nice games… in My games the player will never have to commit a felony, or use Drugs to win the game… that is how all my upcomeing games will be… I want to spend 50% of the time on “fluff” games that have no Major acts of violence, games you can feel safe to let your 5 or 6 year old kid to play…
On the other 50% i want to do the metroid like game… have it with just a bit of violence, on non humanoid computer players…
I may make everything robots, so the game is not simbolic of KILLING, it is about “retireing” the robots like in the book “Do androids Dream of electric sheep?” or commonly known by the movie title Bladerunner…
I think I can make a pretty good game that all ages can play and have fun with, without all the blood and gore that is associated with games now a days…

later on I wil do my Gore fest game, after we get the multiplayer working a bit bettter…

I am going to play with Zbrush and Morph targets today… I want my trees to have faces on them and to smile when the player passes by them… the morph thing will make it verry easy to snap off the 3-10 frames I need

First thing you will need for the beta is the Scrolling Game Development kit installed. get it here for FREE!:
http://gamedev.sourceforge.net/

Here is the game, hope you all like it :
http://www.s91842597.onlinehome.us/game/polarisGAME.exe
it is in a 7zip self exstracting Zipfile… just download this file into an empty folder, and double click on it to start it deflateing…
the game name is Perfect, right click on the file and select “PLAY”

this game will work with most joysticks… If you dont have joystick use keys:
w-up (jump)
s-Down
a-left
d-right

I will be releaseing the full game in a few days, I will have it packages for easy install.

Well I hope you all like it… please post feedback… If there are any questions on how I used Zbrush to make the nature stuff, just ask, and i will do my best to give a helpful responce/tutorial
I am for Hire, if you want a Scrolling game for advertisement, or you want a game to spread some kind of message to young people let me know, and I will make a Bid for you

Ok, I am off my linux system now… I can upload some of the nice Zbrush content I made

I only had the charictors on my linux system…Ii do all my modeling and animation in X. i use Wings and Blender… Next few levels i make, i will be makeing some Zbrush content too…

My original plans where to have the sprites 32x32 pixels… now it is 64x64 so I am going to be able to add more detail to the models… This looks like a job for (Music: da da Ta DAAAAAA!) Zbrush 2!

Heh! I just thought of something… I can use Zbrush for some of the tree animations all they will be doing is swaying back and fourth 5 frames… with a multimarker and a pose-able Zsphere tree, I can snap off some quick shots and save tim on the animateing

well anyways here are some of the trees from the game… I am going to add some more detail to the grass… perhaps a few ferns … I have to keep it generic looking because it scrolls from right to left… any distinguishing markings ruins the illusion, so I try to keep everything the same colors…

the grass is the default grass textuire on a tweaked plane…

The leafs are imported photo, that is masked, and applied first to a sphere with tileing set to 4x4 … i spray on branches with small circle strokes… Then I apply the same texture to a plane, and add some random sized leafs here and there…
A little color bump + value will give the illusion of veins on the leafs…

The bark on the trees also has a color bump + value…
the tree is a Zsphere model drawn in random directions… I just planted a base , and then did a snapshot, rotated a bit, and another snapshot, etc…

after i sprayed on the leafs (Heh! leafs aint a word),
I went back an threw in a few branches , all the branches are is a scaled down version of teh trunk
Hope you all like it… any suggestions, comments are welcome !

have a good day everyont
