I’ve got installed R6 version and at the count of around just 1million points, whether in polyframe mode on or off, viewport starts to feel sluggish, like stuttering, noting a dip in fraps count. I own a rig based on a 6th gen cpu (i5-6500) paired with 8GB DDR4 Ram, and a GTX 1060 6GB GPU, Zbrush recommended system specs for this amount of polys or higher, only suggest at least 4GB or above. For the sake of camparison I also own an older 3rd gen notebook with no dedicated discrete gpu, and just 2GB DDR3 Ram, and, at the same points count doesn’t note the before mentioned issue. Zbrush is running on a 128GB SSD with about 50GB of free space. Can anyone tell me what could be the problem here??
You’re using an old version of ZBrush which is 32bit, so the amount of RAM at its disposal is limited (to 4GB if I remember correctly). You should upgrade to the latewst version (4R8) which is free to registered users. You’ll then be able to take full advantage of your system.
Also, check you aren’t using Dynamic Subdivision and classic Subdivision at the same time - that is sure to lead to a slow down.
I don’t think Dynamic Subdivision is an R6 feature.
However what you post does’t explain the lag difference between the two systems, being the older one with far lesser specs running smooth at the same polycount, the only difference is that in the older rig is running on W7 x64, and my actual rig is W10 x64. Could be and OpenGL thing, or some interference of the vcard settings? does it even uses OpenGL or the GPU?
No, ZBrush is a software renderer and doesn’t use OpenGL. As I say, upgrade to 4R8 and you’re sure to get a better result.
