ZBrush 4r4 won't run now?

Hi,

Recently I had both ZBrush 4r3 and 4r4 installed on my Windows 7 PC. Both versions ran fine, except that I was having a few abnormal terminations occurring during my use of 4r4.

So, I decided (just as an experiment) to deactivate 4r3 and uninstall it. Then I uninstalled 4r4, and cleaned my registry (using ‘CCleaner’). I rebooted my PC and installed ZBrush 4r4 only, but now it won’t run at all. All I get is a black screen in which ZBrush seems to be ‘stuck’. What could be the problem??

Since this problem occurred, I re-installed 4r2 and it runs fine, but 4r4 still won’t run. Can someone help me out.

My systems specs are:

Intel Core i5 CPU 670 @ 3.47 GHz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

You may just have gotten a bad install, which can occasionally happen.

Usually, when you get what you’re experiencing it’s because a necessary .dll is missing. In that case, installing the vcredist files found in your 4R4 Troubleshoot Help folder would resolve it. That’s unlikely since 4R2 runs, but it’s still worth trying.

Otherwise, uninstalling ZBrush, deleting its folder and reinstalling will probably resolve the issue. Don’t forget to run ZUpgrader, too. And make sure your antivirus software is temporarily disabled in case it’s getting in the way.

Well, I decided to do a Window’s System Restore which put the registry back the way it was. I uninstalled 4r3 and installed only 4r4. For some reason it runs fine now. I guess ‘cleaning’ the registry did something to stop it working, but it’s a bit of a mystery. Thanks for your help.

Started having the issue stating that I was out of virtual memory, and it was asking me to terminate. So I uninstalled, reinstalled and now All I get is a black screen everytime it loads and then it promptly crashes.

First, try uninstalling 4R4 and deleting its folders. Not just the ZBrush 4R4 folder but also the C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData folder. Then install 4R4 again.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, the next thing to try is using the Windows Control Panel to uninstall all versions of Microsoft C++. After that, run the vcredist installers (both of them) in your ZBrush 4R4\Troubleshoot Help folder.

Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Deleting everything even the files in the Documents folder allowed me to finish the install. Thanks! However my old workflow doesnt seem to work with this new version… I cant seem to export anything over 12 million polys…
