ZBrush 4R2 will not load

I have 4R2 installed on a few computers, and everything worked great. Now, when I open the program, the icon appears in the taskbar (Windows), the disk mouse cursor appears for a bit, and then it turns to the circle ‘wait’ symbol and the program never actually appears. I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing it 3 times, with restarts between each, and it’s still happening.

The only thing I did differently today was import an external tool (human model) into it. My guess is that is the problem. But when I imported it the model loaded fine, and I was able to play around with it no problem. It’s only after closing the program and opening it later that this problem occurred.

If I wait long enough, I do get an error message. “error has been encountered while trying to load a material”. When the error message appears I click ok and the wheel continues to spin and nothing ever happens. I kept thinking it was that imported material, but I keep re-installing it and the same problem occurs.

Is there some way I can wipe out every single file ZBrush touches on my machine so it will be a completely clean and fresh install? It’s not the install files as I’ve installed it on other computers before and after this one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

To do a full reinstall, you need to uninstall ZBrush and delete its folders. Otherwise there are usually files left over.

Also, you really should upgrade to 4R3.

If neither of those resolve the issue my recommendation is to reinstall your Microsoft C++ installation(s). Those are a part of Windows and you can get the installers via Google.
