ZBrush 3 Licence Errors

I tried installing ZBrush 3 on my Windows Vista machine Home Premium HP Pavilion machine with 2GB RAM but when i try running the application I get an error message saying:

LICENSING ERROR: Unknown return_code (FALSE_AF_VK_ACCESS_DENIED). Please contact Pixologic. Shutting down.

I read on some of the forums that you need to run the application as administrator but when i do this i get the following error message:

LICENSING ERROR: Unknown return_code (FALSE_MAIN_LF_CORRUPT). Please contact Pixologic. Shutting down.

I tried contacting support 2 days ago but have had no reply as yet.

Can anyone help please?

hey same problem
running zbrush 3 on vista home premium on HP pavilion entertainment laptop an get the first message. if any1 knows a fix please psot

I’m having the same exact problem on my new Dell XPS 720 with windows vista.

Also still waiting for Pixologics support to get back to me.

Does anyone know what to do?

It’s a Vista thing. Just go to the folder where ZB was installed (default’s to c:/program files/pixologic/Zbrush3), right click the ZBrush3.exe executable and go to ‘Properties’. Once In properties, click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check ‘Run this program as an administrator’.

There you go!

Thank you Cezar.

I can now open ZBrush 3.1.

However, I can’t stop it from crashing. Everytime I try to save a tool it crashes. Also, the outline of the tool on the document screen is choppy and pixolated (at high subdiv or low subdiv levels), even though the rest of the tool is smooth.

Is this also a vista bug?

This is a brand new computer – Dell XPS 720, with dual quadcore, 2GB RAM, nVideo Gforce graphics…

As it’s a brand new computer I have been able to get a copy of Windows XP Pro to install in place (or alongside) of Vista. However, if there’s a way to patch these other bugs – if they are vista bugs – please let me (us) know.

Please follow this forum’s guidelines when posting any troubleshooting inquiry. With each troubleshooting post, please include your full system specs and any other pertinent information which will allow us to determine if this is one of the following: a) user error? b) Misunderstanding of a specific feature, such as its usage and limitations? c) An item which has already been resolved. d) An item which needs to be resolved.

IMPORTANT: Before posting a troubleshooting item, make sure that:

  1. You are using the latest ZBrush version.

  2. You have a ‘clean’ ZBrush install. i.e. remove any items which you have added (such as older ZScripts and other startup items) which may result in unexpected - and difficult to resolve - problems.

  3. You did not increase the PreferencesMax polygon count or Compact Mem to a level which can not be supported by your system specs.

Any threads that do not follow these guidelines will be closed. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sorry about the improper info.

Yes, the latest version of ZBrush, just bought it this week.

My compuetr specs:
Intel Core2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)

2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz OC’d to 1066MHz-2

256MB nVidia GeForce 8600

320GB - Seagate 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache341-3764

Windows Vista

It is a clean install – no previous versions of ZBrush.

The polycount is well under what the new computer can handle – I made the tool on a weaker, older Dell at school and am up to subdiv 6. I have not played at all with preferences-max polygon count or compact mem.

I fear all the problems are related to windows vista and would like ton know if now that I have gotten the program to open, if there are fixes for the crenelated/pixolated outline of my tool in the document screen and if there’s a way to keep the program from crashing everytime I try to save the tool.

Thank you.

I am having the same problem too. The error message I get is:

LICENSING ERROR: Unknown return_code (FALSE_MAIN_LF_CORRUPT).

It is a clean install. Here are the specs for my computer:

Dell Precision PWS690
Xeon Processors 5150 @ 2.66Ghz
2064 MB Ram
Vista 64 bit operating system
NVIDIA Quadro FX 550

If you’ve tried all the standard things and it still doesn’t work, try un-installing Zbrush, deleting the whole Pixologic folder, re-installing and then following the standard instructions for dealing with this problem. That’s what did it for me.

I just did a complete system upgrade and went to Vista 64-bit. I am getting the same errors as above, but when I run as administrator it tells me I do not have a license file and wants to browse for it. I am installing from the backup CD that I ordered and it never prompts me for my serial number. The system is a clean install with nothing else installed but Maya.

I am going to pop in my old drive and see if I can locate a license file. Maybe it will transfer over. I will look for my original download as well, but that was ZBrush 3, not 3.1. My specs: Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) 4gig RAM 400gig WD SATA Drive Geforce 7800GTX Vista Ultimate 64

Try deleting the Pixologic folder and then give it another go. That’s what worked for me I think.

Worked like a charm for my Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS and ZB 3.1. Thanks to the folks who contributed the steps - ya’ll are the reason that ZBC is the best 3D site on the 'Net.

i have the same problem ;;;;; best way to enstal the crapy w vista and back to olde xp

Ifixed it … i set zbrush3.exe’s proprieties in compatibility mode with xp-sp2 and ran as administrator … all went fine … even tool loading

Same issues here, but Twitchmonkey’s suggestion fixed it. Thanks a lot for posting guys! That saved me a lot of headache. :smiley: vbmenu_register(“postmenu_407228”, true);

What was that suggestion? Im havign the DLL not found, did it help you? link me to it please!

Scroll farther up the thread. Twitchmonkey’s post is there. It’s doesn’t work for all users, but it does work for most.

Ok… but what are the instruction he speaks of?

Hello!

I am running into this same problem however I am running Windows XP. I contacted support and the solution I received was the one for Vista rather than XP (the same one described earlier in this thread).

I double-checked to make sure I’m logged onto the admin account (I am). Since XP doesn’t have the same options as Vista I’m at a loss as to what to do next. I’m hoping for a reply back from support but seeing as it’s the weekend I’m likely due for quite a wait. So I thought I’d ask here in case anyone might know the answer.

Thank you!
