Zbrush 2023 startup material not saving

Hi there, just curious if anyone else is having this issue?

Hi @Digidemonic ,

I’m not having the issue you report in ZBrush 2023 on Windows. You’ll need to contact ZBrush Support for technical assistance.

Thank you!

Thanks, will do.

Hello @Digidemonic ,

I am currently facing the same issue (ZBrush 2023.0.1). Did ZBrush Support offer you a solution that worked?

Hello, yes, in my case, it ended up just being some lingering files from the previous version of Zbrush that needed to be deleted for the new 2023 install. Just make sure all previous Zdata files are gone, so your fresh install isn’t corrupted and it should work properly after that.
Best regards,
Rick

Thank you very much, Rick! That fixed it for me

Kind regards,
Rohan

Can you elaborate on which files and where as I have brand new install, and no previous version but still will not save startup material?

I fixed it!

I had the same problem with saving the startup material.
I first selected the material and then saved it via “Save as Startup Material”. Also with SHIFT+CRTL+I I overwrote everything and still had the problem.

I also copied the material to all the “ZStartup folders” but nothing worked.

Under C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData2023\ZStartup
there are two files:

  • StartupDocument(.zmt)
  • StartupMaterial(.zmt)

The “StartupMaterial.zmt” file had the current save time in it and when I opened the file, the desired material was also selected.
BUT this is not true for the “StartupDocument.zmt” file, it had the installation time and the wrong material selected.

So I opened the file “StartupDocument.zmt”, selected my startup material and saved it again (Material> “Save as Startup Material”) AND after that I saved the document preset (Document > “Save as Startup Doc”).
As soon as both files have the current time stored, the problem was solved.

Hope this helps
