Zbrush 2022 startup document size keeps resetting

Hi, I have changed the size of the document and saved it as startup as I did for previous versions but it seems it keeps resetting to default.
Not only the size but sometimes I get the red clay material on the sphere and some other times I get the basic grey material.
How do I solve this?

Hello @Dantert ,

The startup document only applies when you are starting ZBrush in a new session with no project loaded. If you load a project file the document dimensions are stored in the file itself and this will override the startup doc.

A common point of confusion with this is the “WSize” option in the document palette. This feature is enabled by default in a new project and its status is saved in a project file. If this is enabled, the document will resize itself to fit your display resolution (modified by any OS display scaling) minus space occupied by your UI elements, regardless of whatever you have the document dimensions set to. Canvas resolution has a performance impact in ZBrush and the program will try to keep performance high by getting rid of excess canvas that can’t fit on your screen.

In order to ensure the document opens with specific dimensions you will need to disable this option before saving the file. Once saved the file will remember that setting, and the file will open with the canvas sized to whatever the dimensions in the document palette specify.
