ZBrush 2022.0.6 Pre-Purchase licence question

Hi, I am about to purchase zBrush hopefully, i have absolutely no knowledge of the program or its history, release schedule…

So I never will buy a subscription to any program ever, I am trying the demo for 2022.0.6

Q. Based on historical estimation, where are we in the release cycle of zBrush? I understand from Maxon that I will get minor upgrades / fixes if they are released, but I will not get the next version, and probably wont be able to upgrade to it.

So I will be stuck on 2022.x.x (which is more than enough for my needs)…but if it is expected a major release imminently, I can hold off a purchase for a couple of months and pray that it is available on perpetual, or chose to buy this version assuming it is still available to buy.

Having recently bought C4D R25 perpetual, I have already been burned once by Maxon refusing to allow me to upgrade to S26 or 2023 on a perpetual, so this is the end of the road for me in that app.

Thanks

Hello @marcZ ,

I can’t comment as to when you might see a new major release version of ZBrush. If the release is imminent it will be announced here.

Thank you!

I have zero experience or affiliation with Maxon or Pixologic but according to this FAQ perpetual licences will be upgradable, albeit at a price yet to be determined. I guess a perpetual upgrade will not be cheap.

Patch 2022.0.6 was just released and the ZBrush Summit is around the corner (Nov 13-16). In the Pixologic days major version updates were generally announced during the Summit. So perhaps wait for the Summit and if there’s an update, wait to purchase that as perpetual.

As a hobbyist I find 2022.0.6 powerful enough so I won’t be paying for an update unless it has some major new must have feature.

Anyway Zbrush is awesome so have fun with it when you get it.

Thanks for this info, I will wait for the summit.

I originally only looked at zbrush because my upgrade to c4d2023 has been blocked by subscription, and I really wanted zremesher…having strugged with zbrush’s insane interface and redefining the wheel, I see a hidden gem of a program and possibilities.

I hope Maxon take the code, create a C4d interface for it, and forge a stunning diamond from this, but as it stands 2022.0.6 is probably 10x what I will ever need anyway, but I dont like getting burned.

Hi Marcz,

there is no C4D S26 (S = subscription release) or at the moment 2023 as a perpetual release available.
The C4D R25 is the current perpetual release and I’m pretty sure if Maxon announces the next perpetual C4D release then you can buy an upgrade from your C4D R25 if you want.
As a hobby user I stock with my C4D R21 and ZBrush 2022.0.6.
Btw, if you don’t know, the R25 has its own remesher generator: https://help.maxon.net/c4d/r25/en-us/Default.htm#html/OREMESH.html

A good alternative could be the stand alone program ‘Instant meshes’

Hi,

From my conversations with the Maxon rep, I don’t think there will be any further perpetual upgrades from R25, so I am pretty pissed. 2023 should have been R27 going by recent release sequence and I was ready to buy to get the zRemesher option that was included in s26. The remesher in R25 is pretty poor compared to S26 and 2023.

However, I like the possibilities with zBrush, so I am going to buy the perpetual licence at some point.

I guess at some point, I will have to learn blender and be done with this subscription nonsense, but at the moment I dont have time, and my previous feelings of blender are pretty negative.
