Zbrush 2021 Performance drop with Masking or Polygroups on

Hi there

EDIT: Found what is causing the problem. Polypaint turned on is slowing down with masking or polygrouping visible. Once is off, everything works just fine.

I was about to create some clothing for wip character and this stricked me down.

Hello @Xaia

Switching on polyframe mode on a high resolution mesh without any lower levels of subdivision to preview will slow down performance under any circumstances. The denser the mesh, the more lines ZB has to draw which comes with performance impact. Toggling off the Line element in the Polyframe button will allow you to preview to poly groups without the performance impact of the polyframe.

@Spyndel

I did the exact same steps in zbrush 2020 and 2021 and only 2021 is droping frames.
Beside, mesh is not hat dense it’s only 800k polys.

And like I said in the edit. Polypaint is causing this. Everything works fine when it’s off.

If you believe you have a repeatable technical issue, this needs to be reported to Pixologic Support in order to receive technical attention. These are just the community forums. Reporting the issue here won’t get it into the hands of the development team.

Good luck!

Already sent a ticket with the link here. It was easier to attach files and videos here.

Cheers

Tried it too, it looks like viewport interaction is mostly single threaded when Grd is on (button next to colorize in the Polypaint menu)

Yup same thing happening to me as well.

Go to task manager and performance tab, check always on top
while you navigate in 2021 check if its utilizing %30 of your cpu
while 2020 utilizing %99

I also sent a ticket with a video.
125K mesh is having hard time rotating in polyframe active…

Sticking to 2020 for now :+1:
