ZB sculpting over a mechanical model

Wondering if ZB can be used to sculpt over a foundation 3D model? If so, how and what would be the ideal format for the underlying model…i.e. .stl, obj, step, igs or other???

Thank you,

Hello @panchovilla

Zbrush can import a 3d mesh in the following formats:

    • Wavefront OBJ (*.obj)
    • Maya (*.ma)
    • Mesh Ascii (*.mesh)
    • Mesh binary (*.meshb)
    • GoZ (ZBrush format for GoZ-enabled programs)
    • STL (*.stl)
    • FBX

The type or quality of the geometry might vary with the sort of application it is, but ZBrush has tools for converting geometry to more usable forms. Obj is a very common and reliable format used to port geometry between programs.

So ZB imports a .obj, converts it to a ZB useable format, and the sculpting occurs. I assume it can export to a number of formats, .stl being one of them?

My company is looking for someone to do some organic decorative work over a mechanical file. Is there a way through the forum to advertise?

Hi @panchovilla

These are the export options…
