Zapplink crashes Photoshop on reinstall, except with "Zapplink views"

Recently my SSD died weirdly and I had to reinstall windows & Zbrush on the new one and now I can’t get Zapplink to work good again. Maybe it’s because this time I installed first Zbrush and then Photoshop, while the other time the other way around… i don’t know. What happens is that after Zbrush sends the data, i see a screenshot in photoshop but right after that and before seeing the layers Photoshop crashes. This used to work before flawlessly.

The weird thing is that if I create multiple views and check “Zapplink Views” the document menu it works, and it does send in multiple layers without crashing Photoshop. Stumbled upon this less than perfect temp solution based on a report of the problem from a few years ago, but I’d really like to be able to send just one view quickly without the additional steps and layers. Thank you in advance! Can’t wait for 4r7!!!

photoshop zapplink crash.jpg

Searching online I think it’s the same error described here by somebody about 2 years ago:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-1032103.html
despite being a couple of versions back it seems like the same behavior.
I can also get it to work with multiple views/layers, but not in the more useful single view mode.
I kept trying reseting and reconfiguring GoZ as well as deleting/recreating folders to no effect.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I have a very zbrush-photoshop concepting workflow and this jumping back and forth is very important to me so I would really really love to get it working again. Thank you in advance.

ZAppLink is configured through the Document pallette

I don’t see how your answer applies to my question. I knew that and even said that above that with a tweak in the Document palette I can get it to work again … but in an undesired way, which is to say it only works if I first manually set and then send multiple views, not as it used to/should just by clicking Zapplink with the current view. The send partially works, the image does get into photoshop, it’s just that Photoshop instantly crashes after that, before I can edit the image. All other documents work normally in Photoshop (CS6).

I guess it’s confusing so I’ll try to explain with images step by step:

  1. click on zapplink

1 click on zapplink.jpg

  1. zapplink normal

2 zapplink.jpg

  1. error

3 error.jpg

  1. set views front, side, left, right in the Zapplink properties in the Documents menu

4 set views.jpg

  1. zapplink multiple views now starts instead of normal one although same button

5 zapplink.jpg

  1. works, but sends over many (undesired) layers

6 works.jpg

( couldn’t attach rest so continuing in next message)

  1. but if I clear the views

  2. clear all

9) it doesn’t work again, giving the same photoshop crash

hope this makes it a bit clearer. Thank you for your help and patience!

Ah, screen grab. I see you should update to ZB4R6 P2  ZPlugings:AutoUpdate

Unfortunatelly it’s not that either.

I’m guessing what you meant was the status bar, I saw that code in the screenshots and I didn’t know if that code is safe to post on a public forum so a blanked it out, and indeed all the codes start with P2.

The numbers are more like a session ID rather than serial number. I guess you’ll have to contact [email protected] They’ll want your specs to try and help you, RAM etc. Good luck.

Aaa, i thought it’s something like the license number and I was wondering why Pixologic would put it so out there with all the people doing screencasts and stuff.

Thank you again for all your interest and patience. I really appreciate it. I’ll contact suppor then!

In case anybody else runs into this: my problem was custom solved by the fabulous support through a new dll. Hope it’ll be standard in future builds.
