Z remeshing lips help needed

Hi

I am currently a female character and every time i try to zremesh lips they either lose a lot of depth/ height or make it look it shes smiling. first image is before Z remeshing and last two are after.

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for reading

ZRemesher reduces polycount. Any time you reduce polycount, you will lose detail that depends on a high polycount. In order reclaim that lost detail, you will need to subdivide your new mesh, and project the detail from the previous mesh onto it.

Read this page about transferring detail.

Hi

Thank you for the quick response i have tried projecting the detail there is a slight improvement but that doesn’t seem to work.

the first two images are before projection and the last two are after.

Number 2 and number 4 look very similar to me. Are you projecting the detail from your original (non-Zremeshed) mesh? That is the source mesh. Your Zremeshed mesh is the target mesh, and must be subdivided sufficiently to hold the projected detail.

There are two methods listed in the linked article. You may have better luck with one than the other, but follow the steps carefully. It may take some trial and error to dial in the settings to get the desired results.

If youre sure you’re doing it correctly, the flow of the topology in your Zremeshed subtool may simply not be able to create that detail without distortion. You can try using the Zremesher guides to direct the poly flow during Zremshing.

I think i did it right i pressed project all with a zremeshed model as the selected z subtool with my original model visible and on top of the zremeshed model i think thats the correct way of doing it.

I havent tried using zremesher guides or freeze subdivision levels yet

thank you again for the quick response

I just tried using the freeze sub division levels method and it works alot better.

the lips are not smiling anymore but they have lost a little bit of depth around the upper lip area but im not quite if the lips not a lot of height/depth to begin with.

I think either you projected from the wrong subtool in your first attempt, or the settings (usually the .dist slider) were not high enough to project all the way outward.

Nothing will work right though, if the target mesh does not have enough polygons to hold the detail. If you need especially fine detail on one area, Zremesher can be manipulated into delivering more polygons in target location (see the density by polypaint feature). The more polygons an area has when Zremeshed, the higher the resolution in that area will be when subdivided.

ok thanks again i will try to use zremesher guides and polypaint in the future.

thank you for the quick repsonses you have been very helpful

Next time i should sculpt the mouth open.

I just tried using zremesher guide and poly paint. it is working alot better

i managed to keep some of the depth of the lips of the high poly model .

No problem! Always nice to see someone pick up on your advice so quickly. Topology flow and projection are advanced concepts, but key to being able to do a lot of useful things in Zbrush.

thanks for the advice most of other posts on the forum and haven been only getting one or no replies so its nice to get a fast response and feed back.

I am just using the z remesher guides and i am wondering is it possible to stop making the z remesher guide curves a different polygroup?

I’m not sure I understand. Zremesher guides should not apply polygrouping, and to the best of my knowledge ZRemsher will only create separate polygroups if the object had them prior to Zremeshing, and the “keep groups” function is pressed.

My experience with the new ZRemesher is limited though, so it’s possible something has changed.

don’t worry it seems the problem is gone anyway

i am trying to make sure it looks right when i bring it over to substance painter and it doesn’t look like i am putting lipstick and a mannequin head if you know what i mean

heres a picture to show what i mean hopefully its not a problem with this forum if i reference a different software i just made i quick picture to show you what i mean this is not my final product

sorry if that got a bit confusing or you dont know anything about substance painter i am trying to show you where i begin to struggle
