Hello, I am new to the forums. I have had a little bit of experience with 3D Studio Max 7 and I only found out about Z brush today. I was wonderring, can Z Brush be used as a stand alone program to make full models? I looked at some of the models in the featured gallary and they look amazing. Movie quality. Are most of those made with 3D studio max or Maya and then using Z Brush or is Z Brush capable of doing that whole model? There is a ton of information here so it is a bit overwhelming. Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I’m just trying to understand exactly what Z brush can do.
ZB can make models from scratch, either by starting with a primitive & box modelling, or by starting with Zspheres & then converting to a mesh & sculpting…
You can then fully texture the model & export everything you’ve created to Max…
Besides from the export options, you can take advantage of the posing possibilities of the Zmodels, add environment and can do also the renderings within ZBrush for awsome looking stills!
Sooo yes, I would say Zbrush is pretty much a standalone application.

ZBrush IS a standalone application. It is not a plugin for any other software. It’s used by a good many illustrators to create original works of art from start to finish. It also complements any animation package with its modeling, texturing and displacement/normal mapping capabilities.
