YOUR definition of arts

I and some guys were at this on another thread.
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=71427&page=2&pp=15

But I was thinking that we discuss too much in general terms, but not what it meant to us in the individual level.

So, I would like to hear on what YOUR definition of art is, and what it means to you.

Not the one that got taken from dictionary, or words of some Great Philosophers.

And this is mine.

For me, Art is a corpse. It is something that its creator created and left in this world after he gone to the next.
If its a recognizable corpse, then it will get treated well and remembered for all eternity. If its not, then it`ll simply be forgotten and got eaten by maggots, then rotten away along the flow of time.

Present day collaborative arts, like movie, game, etc, are a field of massacred bodies.
The bigger it is, the stinkier it become, and with less chance that anyone will recognize any individual body, except those of the beautifully mangled generals and officers.

— Aye, these are my extension of the idea that [Art is its creator]

THX

My opinion about Art is explained in my sig.

El arte es cualquier cosa, QUALQUIERA, que pueda transmitir un sentimiento, una idea, una instantánea del tiempo.

Art is anything, ANYTHING, that can transmit a feeling, an idea, a snapshot of time.

Whether something is art or not doesn’t matter to me. Either something is cool or it’s not.

Art is communication of pure experience, which cannot be accomplished by plain language.

We’re all truly alone, as we can never connect with another person by anything more than the most superficial aspect of experience - our senses.

When one creates a work of art, they place a beacon in this existential darkness. I call it a beacon because it lets us know that others are really alive out there, and what we learn from the experience of another through their art can even help guide us through our own lives.

However, we can never truly come to know or interact with another through art, because art can never be more than a shadow of the spirit. It is something a person chooses to leave behind. This shadow we can study in order to know that piece of a person’s past self, which is the closest we can ever come to directly knowing or interacting with another beyond the senses.

yes, things like the book of kells, stained glass windows, the cathedrals, the wonders of the world…none of those took any technical skills. And jackson pollack will be considered a genius in 200 years. Now I see why people bash on you.

Bash on who?

Art is a slug crawling lengthwise down a razorblade, screaming for the artist to release it from its agony.

To me art is documentation of thoughts, telling imagination without words and if rich people like it, they put a price tag on it. are drawings on cave wall art or documentation?

GILLETTE!! THE BEST A SLUG CAN GET!.

THX People! I found it rather fun, reading your ideas.
I`ll try to decipher what you guys are trying to say.

jaystein777 - you said GodS, which mean there are many sources or inspirations right?

ISK-86 - So you`re a pro-Tolstoy faction?

splodge - Yours is close to the idea of [If you like it, then it`s a good art]
or [The value of an art depend on whether you like it or not] no?

SalmonGod - I see that you went even further with the idea that Art is communication.

neurogenesis - I`m not quite sure what you were trying to say with the 1st one.
With the second one - Suppressed emotions long for release by its creator?

pride - pure expression?

lemonnado - shapes and forms that are beauties to the eyes?

I try to avoid the word ‘art’.

I don’t judge things on how artistic they are. I also don’t set out to make art. and I would never call myself an artist or aspire to be an artist. Instead I get an idea and then attempt to bring it into reality. I really don’t care at all whether somebody thinks my creation is art. I’m more than happy with a “hey, that’s cool!” or a “haha, that’s funny!”.

When I hear people ponder over whether a creation of mine is art or not then it just makes me cringe. I’m not trying to make art dammit!. Tell me if it’s good, tell me if it’s bad, but don’t tell me whether you think it’s art or not… or I’ll beat you to death with it!

“Art” sucks!

Art is a pattern recognized by the neural net we carry between our ears. It depends on the configuration of that neural net how structures are perceived. In emergencies that neural net can be adjusted with a 2x4.

Well, I mean Gods in a more rounded view, mainly that many cultures worship different Gods. I believe in a single source of inspiration, but it’s much deeper than that. Simply put creativity is what sets us apart form each other and ourselves as indivduals.

So you`re a pro-Tolstoy faction?
Well… i dunno what that means, What I try to say, is that art (in any of its disciplines) has to transmit a feeling, an Idea, somenting… the key word here is Transmit, comunicate from the mind of the artist to the mind of the wathcer/listener.

Art is in architecture, art is in music, art is in dancing, and also on cooking, art is on writing, art is in painting, art is in sculpting…

As long as the building can say “Im great and imponent”, the music can say “I’m depressed but still have hope”, the dance can say “I’m pretending her but she ignores me”, the fried chicken says “two tastes are fighting here, good and evil, salt and sweet”, the painting can tell you “tis is an arid place”, the sculpture can say “Her soul is broken”…

Art is everywhere, and art may be God Itself, and we might be his masterpiece
