Workflow

What are the most overused brushes in zbrush & what brushes should character artist should use more in their work.

Hello @chirag_S

You’ve asked for an opinion, so be aware this is only one person’s opinion.

There are no “overused” brushes if those are brushes you’re comfortable with and that help you achieve the desired effect. If certain brushes are widely used, this only means that they are very good at what they do.

If you’re looking for a tip, however, one of the most important aspects of Zbrush that even some long term users overlook has nothing to do with brushes. It has to do with being able to hide or mask polygons and polygroups at will with ZBrush’s mesh visibility and polygroup shortcuts.

So many things you want to do in Zbrush will come down to being able to isolate exactly the polygons you want for a given operation, or to create the exact polygrouping that you need. You should be able to do this by muscle memory without thinking about it. It’s what separates a power user from a less skilled user who is going to find a great many things more difficult to do because they dont have the skills to efficiently manage the mesh, and to quickly mask or isolate sections at will.

Thank you for your reply. It has given me lots to think about in terms of workflow.
