i was trying to make it look like the wood was kind of burned with a soldering iron or something. couldn’t get the effect i was after. any suggestions? oh and i just used PS for gaussian blur and a little noise.
personally, i think you achieved the effect.
yea looks nice to me also…
For a Burn /Dodge effect, Zbrush has a tool called the Hilighter 2 brush…
Try pressing the GrabDoc button in the texture menu. then select a flat color material… then press control f to fill the screen with your image…
then use the hilighter 2 brush… hold down the ALT key to make a burn effect… be sure to adjust the intensity slider… a lower value will give you more control over the burning effect.
you could also use the same technique you used but find an alpha that is kinda wedge shaped like a burn in knife would be.
You almost got it I think…just a change in the alpha shape should do it.
thanks for the replies guys. it really helps to have a second opinion.
i am gonna try to do it again with a sharper alpha. thanks for that idea aminuts.
and i am gonna try hightlighter 2 brush. thanks Polaris30.
the guy i am diong this for wants it to be black and white and will use it as a logo so i decided to just use the wood as an ink block(joke). Zbrush and Photoshop printing, hehehe. reminds me of printing and lithography class .
a sharp alpha…and the shadow brush at a -15 value should do it if black on white or +for white on black…very low intensity settings. That way you could retain wood grain but still have the burn-in look. a slash “/” made into an alpha so you have almost a caligraphy angle to it when drawing…durn it if ya haven’t got me thinking of experimenting with it now hahahaha.
Good luck with your project!
