Wolverine-like character

Hey there
I’ve been using ZBrush for more than two years but never happened to post anything here… Don’t know why, though. But everything is about to change.

This is a model I’ve started way back in ZBrush 2.0,continued working on it in Mudbox and now I’m coming back to ZB again  The model was pretty much done and just needed some posing, but I’m really bad at rigging and skinning, so I left it for better times =P
Anyways,I’ve spent the whole day experementing with the transpose tool and I’ve managed to pose my “Logan”. And here are a couple of screens:

This is how the model looked before posing:

Note:the model was made in the “T” pose,so some areas like hands, elbows, shoulders definitey need some work.Gonna do that tomorrow…
In the mean time, please let me know what you think of it so far and if you have any C&C please throw it here  I especially need your thoughts regarding the legs… don’t like their current position…

P.S. I’d like to thank Pixologic for creating such an amazing piece of software. ZBrush trully unlished an artist within me  Thanks you.

Dude! It’s pretty clear even at this early stage that this is going to be brilliant!..

Wow this is great man, very clean
I lvoe the pose, the facial expression and you did a great job on creating his clothes, very convincing.

ur right about the hands being a little off, the fingers seem a little short and need more definition, but it is coming along great i would love to see more

daddymack: Thanks  But what do you mean by “early stage?” =p The model is almost done, just need to refine some parts…

Ceriph: Glad you like it  Yeah, the hands got really messed up after the transpose tool. Making a knuckle isn’t that easy with it…
As for the clothes,it was a real pain in the butt. Not only most of the model (shes, body, pants) were made with my mouse, but I also had to remodel the shirt a couple of times to make it look OK

Anyways,I’ve started fixing up some body parts so hopefully I’ll post an update tonight

very nice, but you should give him a more angry-bad looking face.

Sorry Mr B… I just thought that since he was so pro looking he was going to move further away from the generic… Right now I see a fairly average dude, exceptionally well crafted with adamantium fingernails… I assumed you’d be giving him some unique traits to make the final far more memorable.

hi! nice work so far…i understand what daddymack said about it being in early stage as there are no texturing, materials and close up screens to see any skin/fabric details…also, the tshirt looks quite tight so i suggest you paint some muscle definition (subtle abs etc…) and work a little bit more the area where this tshirt gets into the pant?
only suggestions though as it could look pretty cool with a nice render the way it is
also, a question for you: how did you manage to pose your character with all the subtools? or dd you pose them one by one seperatly (if so, must have been a pain in the **** lol)
?

n-drew: Looks quite angry to me

daddymack: I don’t know what else should I make to make him look better. It’s Logan, based more on the one from the movie,so nothing fancy there

abe_Tamazir: There won’t be any texturing. And all the muscles and high res details are already there,it’s just that this matcap material kinda blurs all of them…Check out this image that I made in 2.0 before posing:

As for the subtools, yeah,I posed them one by one,but it wasn’t that hard since the pose is fairly simple… Took me about 5 mins =p

so i guess that you used mesh extract to make the tshirt?
mad how much detail you’ve lost ?

Like I said in my first post, the model was almost done and just needed to be posed… All the objestcs are made in 3D MAX,no mesh extraction…So I haven’t lost anything-what you see is what I have at the moment…

then we both have different perceptions about bad-ass looking comic figures

if i hear wolverine, logan, my imagine gives me a picture about a hairy guy with folds, not shaved and a cigar. he isnt a nice guy at all. he is a beast.

beside this, you have a very good model.

n-drew: If you have any suggestions on how to make him look even more angrier, please let me know

EDIT: who said he was finished? I do plan to make some hair,I just gotta to figure out the best way to do it in ZBrush

well, how to make it more bad-ass…good question. i would search some nice wolverine pics on google to check different styles. or pictures like “angry man” there are some nice ones.

just some suggestions. maybe some wolf pictures would help, too.

How about this one?

Don’t think mine looks any less angrier  …

at least more masculine

btw not every draing/painting fits the wolverine look

Sorry Mr B… I guess I’m attached to Wolverine being more than human… Too many comics me thinks

LYW :+1:

n-drew: True, yet I find these covers to be the best Wolverine pictures there are

daddymack:

Okay,an update… Need to work on the pants a little bit more and probably change the abs now. After that it’s hair making time :

Hmmm… How do you change the lightning in 3.0?.. Seriously,I’m adding new lights, moving them but absolutely nothing happens.I though I can’t do that with those matcap shaders, but it doesn’t work with the standart materials as well…

it’s looking good man!
concerning the lightning, i have the same type of problems with the lightning…plus sometimes it renders it dark (like the light passed behind) even if i try to place it back in front (cliking twice on it) it changes nothing…maybe they’ve changed the way the lightning works? or is it just few bugs?
there might be something to do with the uv option, as now you can have textures without uv…?might affect it in som ways…just speculating though…if you find out anything let us know lol  (will do the same)

Well, the lightning does change when you hit Best, but I can’t understand why it doens’t work in the Preview mode. Weird
