Wolf Spider

Hey everyone!

I thought I’d share another one of my Zbrush classes’ weekly assignments with you

This week we had to model a spider (I pretty much had a day and a half to work on the whole thing). I chose to model a wolf spider.

No crits, but how’d you do the fuzz? Good work.

Great work. How did you do the hair?

Thank you very much!

The fuzz was added post production in Photoshop  I felt like it was missing something, so I manually added some fuzz using the blur brush. It’s just the thin strands that stick out though, the rest are all genuine Zbrush alpha’s.

I think it adds a lot of extra dimension.

The textures are looking pretty good, but I have a few anatomical concerns with the wolf spider. The legs are currently connecting to the side of the spider but they should be connected underneath to the cephalothorax. Arachnids legs always connect down there, and for insects all six legs always connect to the thorax. Here are some very basic reference images;

Enjoy!

wow bro.
amazing work…with all details and perfect form…luv itt…

Thank you very much for the constructive crit BlueSpot!

I have the bottom of the spider laid out like that though, I think it might be the renders that aren’t making that too clear. I will see if I can post a render of the bottom part not too long from now.

I still agree that the balljoint (first one from the thorax out) looks like it should be inside the body more. When my homework slows down I definitely will address those issues.

Again, thank you very much!

Thank you kindly! It was definitely cool working on something other than the human figure. I can’t wait to get back to human(oid) characters though :stuck_out_tongue:

Daym, that is a nice spider if I might say so. It’s all hairy and unpleasant looking! Good idea with subtool master, bet that saved a lot of redundant work.

Thanks Tris! Yeah subtool master definitely is a life-saver!

Can’t wait to see everyone else’s work.

very nice modle, i like the texture put into it. the only thing i would say agenst it is that its not a wolf spider, its way to fat and legs to thin.

Hey Dave!

I realized that as well after I had been working from this one reference picture (which was stupid…lol).

I just made some minor adjustements to the abdomen to make it look less bloated, it definitely looks better.

You’re doing a wolf spider as well?
