WIP female nude

Hi all,

I have been a long time viewer, but never really had anything to say. I’ve had a go at modelling a nude female with reference. It’s not finished yet, but all crits are welcome.

my noob question is though, I havent got enough edge loops in the fingers. What is the easiest way of adding loops. This model was first built in max (not zspheres, i didnt know how to use zspheres) I’m sorry for such a basic question, please forgive me, I just cant find the answer anywhere.

To add a loop without retoplogising, select a loop of faces at your lowest sudbdivision and in the Tool / Gemetry palette press the Edge Loop button

I tried that and it gives me an edge lopp, but the edge isnt centered. and if i move the point/vertex it’ll effect the higher subd.

ideally i probably do need to retop? but when i retop i just get a lower subd model thats really smooth.

please, somebody.

I add an edge loop and its too close to the other edge. and when i retop i just get a low subd thats really smooth.

how do i just add extra edge loops without messing up the higher subd?

Just reposition the new edge loops to the new position you want them at your lowest subd and then reproject the high subd details back onto your mesh. If you mask off all but the fingers you’ll only reproject the areas not masked. The reproject higher subd mesh button I believe is now in the Subtool palette
On old doc: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Tool:Geometry_Subpalette#Other_Controls

ok, thanks for your help.

My model is currently at 27 million polys and Zbrush is getting very unstable with crashes nearly every 2-5 minutes (it locks up and closes down offering me to continue or close, even if I choose to continue evetually it crashes). It crashes more if I hide or mask a part of the model too.

All my mem settings are standard appart from the compact mem is set to 4096 instead of 256. I have run ram tests to make sure I haven't got faulty ram. I don't have hardly any programs running in the background appart from my music and photoshop. I also get the same crashes with a sphere3d at 33 million polygons.

I’m beginning to think, if I can’t solve this problem I’m going to have to split the model into 2 parts and rejoin them later.

update even trying to split and rejoin I get the same error when it comes to rejoining with this tutorial.

my setup: Windows 7 x64 Zbrush 4 (doc:2240x1680) 12 gb (triple channel) i7 920 @ 2.67ghz ati hd5700 1gb (desktop res 1920x1200)

141gb free on my hard drive

If anyone has any ideas in solving the problem, I would be very thankful.

You can do way more with these 27 million polies you allready have  There is no need to subdivide, just go back to the lower subdivs and set up the shapes better

Hi, thanks for replying

Can you push me in the right direction (tutorial/other forum/youtube clip) in doing such a thing? This model was originally built in 3dsmax and not zsphered (i wish i did!), I don’t know if that gives me a disadvantage.

I love your sketchbook btw

Anatomy is quite off in many places, also the model looks far too lumpy so you should re work it at low sub div levels. 27 mil is way too high for a character like this. Also the breast looks very flat.

The actual real model has some uncommon anatomy compared to the “typical” woman, for example her shoulders are broader than her hips, I’ll double check her breasts, cheers.

My real problem as you mentioned before was the poly count being too high, GreenMachine mentioned setting up the shapes better? Any help to push me in the right direction in tackling this issue would be most helpful. I'm totally new to all of this sorry.

I’ve found a way around it, thanks for your help.

try Ryan Kingslien - realistic game characters
don’t let the title push you off , literally 3 quarters of the book is sculpting female anatomy , creating basic meshes with geometries , all good stuff :stuck_out_tongue:
